Tuesday, May 7, 12:48 PM Magnum Hunter (MHR +3.3%) announces the acquisition of a new drilling rig for the Utica shale in Ohio, which raises its fleet to five rigs. Unlike traditional drilling rigs which are on rails and only allow limited movement, MHR's T500XD rig has a walking sub-base which lifts the entire rig six inches above the ground allowing it to turn and rotate. Monday, April 8, 12:28 PM Penn Virginia (PVA -8.3%) plunges after Stifel Nicolaus cuts its rating to Hold from Buy, citing last week's $400M deal for property and wells in the Eagle Ford shale in Texas which gives PVA a more levered balance sheet. Tuesday, April 2, 12:45 PM Penn Virginia Resources (PVR -1.4%) is downgraded to Equal Weight by Barclays, which cuts its 2013 growth forecast to 5% and 2014-15 to 2%-3% due to weaker volume projections. The firm thinks PVR will continue to trade at a high yield (currently 9.16%) pending an improved balance sheet, enhanced growth visibility in its midstream business, and stabilization in the coal business.
