Apple's Low Volume: Meaningful Pause Before Going Higher? [view article]
I'm short on apple. But I believe now it was prematured to enjoy a maximum of benefit... (Fiever...) : Apple can still rise in the short term (190-200).
Therefore, You can't reasonably believe aapl will reach 250 or this kind of widely shared "EXPECTATION"... by analyst and other "specialists"... No time enough for that if you consider NDX or SP500 on 2 years (daily or weekly data) and too high if you consider the wonderful double top in the apple chart (daily data ; 2 years). That's for technical analysis.
According fundamental data, Apple is not anymore "a good bargain". A solid company, without any doubt, but also a solid valuation (P/E : 34). And We are not in the middle of a tech bubble.
Economically, the credit crisis only begins to have effect on consumers. The second round : the lost on credit cards (Don't buy American Express) and tightening and rise of interest and so on. Credit crisis = Consomation crisis. And Apple is just about consumer gadget (with such price apple computers are gadgets ; if you don't have the bucks, you buy pc). And to reach developing countries, apple will have to decrease its prices.
    Everybody begin to understand that.
In conclusion there is to much thing not in favor of apple. But who know...

Euro: The Return of History [view article]
The ability of the US economy to rebound quickly (before Europe)because it was first in so its first out of recession is no given. The systemic problems of debt, entitlements, bailouts, jobs do not bode well for a quick let alone robust recovery. Reply

I reckon demand destruction has had plenty to do with this. Underlying fundamentals are still strong. Look for Apple to peak at $240-$250 this year. Reply

It surely shows how far we've gone when idiots like CLH call true conservatism "leftism." Bush is a liberal in most ways that count. Open your eyes you stupid neocons. Reply

Are VIX Futures Signaling End of Year Slump? [view article]
Overall the post is likely correct, but one must look to other indicators as well. The most negative that can be seen right now is damage to the USA financial markets, and that expected through the remainder of the year. I think being short equities and long PMs is the trade for the fall. Reply

When I arrived in LA in 2006, everybody told me why do you rent this gloomy TH? I said prices are to high and I don't buy at these prices, it is going to drop. Everybody told me you bore me. I have no friends, I still have my money and I can go back to Europe to have a drink when I want. Et voila. Reply

This Market Needs More Volume [view article]
The other side of volume is believers. Increasingly it is clear to many of us that the prospects for this market do not exist this level. Wait and maybe at a P/E of say 10 things will look different - for a while. Reply

Are VIX Futures Signaling End of Year Slump? [view article]
VIX participants aren’t necessarily expecting a decline in the S&P, just an increase in the extrinsic value of SPX options. The VIX could spike and the market could go higher. In the late 1990’s the VIX was over 40 while the market was pushing higher. VIX traders are just expecting an increase in Volatility.

A pickup in the VIX is usually correlated with a decline in the S&P. But it could just be the market expecting: Fannie or Freddie failure, Lehman failing, or an encounter with Russia.

Abbottmd, some indicators work others don't. Nothing is certain.

But if the VIX participants are EXPECTING this decline in S&P, isn't that a contrarian indicator that we might not get it? Reply

Can you say something different to different posts ?
This country has survived major depression and wars , this is still the best country to live in . We are still buying thousand of I-Phones on a daily basis . Europe has been paying 9-10$ a gallon for gas for years . These are just few examples of events that this Country is not Doomed .

The Return of Extreme Bullishness? [view article]
could this be another explanation for high call volume and a lower vix: that there's a huge number of people who want to WRITE calls, and that's where all the volume is coming from--which is also lowering the vix as call writers are having to accept much lower prices? this could be consistent with a view that the market is going sideways rather than up or down for a while. just my 2c. The Lehman Brothers Impact [view article]
Lehman is insolvent and bankrupt! They are facing $70 billion in future writedowns - and have a market cap of $10 billion! This buyout rumor was likely planted by those desperate to unload Lehman stock (using Dick Bove as a conduit). Of course, it will NOT be investigated by the SEC or any other US regulatory agency. When will the crooks go to jail? Hasn't the Street ripped the clueless investor for enough money already?
