- Thursday, December 15, 2011, 2:03 PM Rite-Aid (RAD +4.4%) posts a solid gain today after its Q3 results beat across the board. Losses narrowed on continued growth in same-store sales and strong pharmacy sales that benefited from higher flu-immunizations. The drug-store chain has administered over 1.4M flu shots to date, double last year's 675K count. The company also raises guidance for FY11, now expecting an EPS loss of $0.37 - $0.50 on sales of $25.86B to $26B and same-store sales growth of between 1.2% - 1.8%. 1 Comment [Consumer, On the Move]

- Tuesday, December 13, 2011, 4:54 PM NY Governor Andrew Cuomo signs legislation limiting the ability of PBMs such as Express Script (ESRX) and Medco Health (MHS) to guide prescriptions to mail-order pharmacies. The bill marks a victory for retail pharmacies desperate to hold on to market share with health plans. Lower on the news in AH trading: ESRX -3.7%, MHS -1.8%. - Wednesday, November 16, 2011, 12:45 PM Shares of Rite Aid (RAD) take a turn for the worse after gaining over 2% in morning trading on the back of a Credit Suisse upgrade - and now stand down 6.4% on above-average volume. Chatter ties the sharp turnaround to either a technical breakdown or good old fashioned profit-taking depending upon the source. Comment! [On the Move]
- Wednesday, November 9, 2011, 10:06 AM Credit Suisse analyst Ed Kelly fires up a call on drugstore names, slotting shares of Rite Aid (RAD +2.2%) with an Outperform rating and dropping Walgreen (WAG -3.1%) a notch to Neutral. He links his outlook on the companies to the ongoing Walgreen-Express Scripts (ESRX -2.2%) dispute, saying Rite Aid could see a 6% boost to its EBITDA from the fracas. Comment! [Consumer, On the Move]
- Wednesday, October 5, 2011, 8:44 AM Shares of Walgreen (WAG) lose 1.4% premarket after the firm reports September sales rose a brisk 5.4% Y/Y to $5.95B. A mild flu season (so far) negatively impacted prescription sales and flu shots for the month. Rivals: RAD +1%, CVS unchanged. Comment! [On the Move]
