- Monday, April 29, 12:59 PM As goes Apple, so goes Cirrus Logic (CRUS +7.1%). The audio codec chipmaker is taking off in sympathy with the customer than made up 85% of its March quarter revenue, one trading day after getting clocked due to downbeat remarks about FY14 sales. Likewise, iPhone/Galaxy S4 supplier Skyworks (SWKS +3.4%) is rallying following a post-earnings Friday decline caused by mixed guidance, and so is rival RF Micro (RFMD +3.2%). Broadcom (BRCM +2.5%), meanwhile, is adding to last week's strong post-earnings gains, fueled by a Q1 beat and solid guidance. The gains come even as another Apple supplier, Nam Tai, gets crushed due to weak guidance. Comment! [Tech, On the Move]
- Thursday, April 25, 12:18 PM Low expectations are aiding iPhone supplier TriQuint (TQNT +10.7%), which is surging after missing Q1 estimates and guiding for Q2 revenue of $185M-$190M and EPS of -$0.10 to -$0.12, below a consensus of $194.8M and -$0.08. On its earnings call, TriQuint noted mobile sales (57% of total) fell 30% Q/Q thanks to "seasonally low demand from our largest customer" (almost certainly Apple), but added sales to all other top-5 mobile clients grew, and claimed strong demand for advanced 4G power amplifiers and filters. Possibly up in sympathy: SWKS +2.7%. RFMD +1.6%. CRUS +3%.10.1% of TriQuint's float was shorted as of March 28. Comment! [Tech, Earnings, On the Move]
- Tuesday, April 23, 5:22 PM Tech guidance roundup: 1) Juniper (JNPR) expects Q2 revenue of $1.07B-$1.1B and EPS of $0.22-$0.26, below a consensus of $1.11B and $0.27. Enterprise IT weakness blamed, telecom healthy. 2) Cree (CREE) expects FQ4 revenue of $365M-$385M and EPS of $0.34-$0.40 vs. a consensus of $367.6M and $0.37. Gross margin expected to be ~39.5%, up from FQ3s 38.8%. 3)RF Micro (RFMD) expects FQ1 revenue of $285M-$290M and EPS of $0.07-$0.08, largely above a consensus of $265.8M and $0.07. JNPR -6.4% AH. CREE -7.3%. RFMD -3.3%. (Juniper PR) (Cree PR) (RF Micro PR) Comment! [Tech, Earnings, On the Move]

After-hours top gainers, as of 5:15 p.m.: VECO +9%. SWFT +6%. ILMN +4%. WIT +4%. QCCO +3%.
After-hours top losers: BEAT -11%. RCII -6%. HOV -5%. RFMD -5%. REGI -4%. 1 Comment [On the Move] - Wednesday, April 17, 12:26 PM Chip stocks have a rough day (SOXX -2.8%) following Cirrus Logic's warning, light guidance from Linear Technology (LLTC -4.6%) to go with a Q1 beat - Linear sees 1%-4% Q/Q revenue growth for calendar Q2, below a 4.7% consensus - and ho-hum Q1 results/Q2 guidance from Intel. Apple suppliers Broadcom (BRCM -4%), Avago (AVGO -5.5%), STMicroelectronics (STM -6.7%), NXP (NXPI -7%), RF Micro (RFMD -2.8%), and OmniVision (OVTI -3.3%) are among the casualties, but they're far from alone. ANAD -6.2%. STM -5.7%. FSL -5%. ADI -4.5%. TXN -4.4%. Comment! [Tech, On the Move]
- Tuesday, March 26, 9:53 AM "Sustained content increases look likely, including at top customers Samsung and Apple ... RFMD appears well positioned to capitalize on expanding RF complexity with its 'systems-level' approach." writes Oppenheimer's Rick Schafer, explaining his upgrade of RF Micro (RFMD +8.2%). He's raising his estimates on account of the chipmaker's Galaxy S IV design wins and high-end tuner/RF switch opportunities. Shares are close to their 52-week high. Skyworks (SWKS +2.1%) and Anadigics (ANAD +3.1%) appear to be rallying in sympathy. Comment! [Tech, On the Move, Quick Ideas]
- Friday, March 1, 10:40 AM Apple (AAPL -1.8%) and its suppliers slump after iPhone/iPad image sensor provider OmniVision (OVTI -10.9%) issues light guidance to go with its FQ3 beat. CRUS -4.2%. SWKS -1.9%. TQNT -1.7%. AVGO -2%. RFMD -3.2%. BRCM -1.6%. On its FQ3 call, OmniVision would only attribute the guidance to "a seasonal trend of business," while adding smartphone market share trends are "highly, highly volatile right now." Like virtually all other Apple suppliers, OmniVision never mentions Apple by name. 21 Comments [Tech, On the Move, Earnings]
- Friday, February 22, 2:32 PM With the help of a chip stock rally, Skyworks (SWKS +3.1%) and Anadigics (ANAD +4.1%) are recouping some of the losses they saw on news of Qualcomm's (QCOM) RF front end. Lazard has upgraded RF Micro (RFMD +0.5%), arguing Qualcomm's solution is a "proof of concept" and that the company is unlikely to risk upsetting partners. Longbow thinks Qualcomm's use of bulk silicon and SAW filters will limit its solution to low-end devices. But Signals Research feels differently (.pdf). "Historically, a system-based solution wins since there are efficiencies that can’t otherwise be realized." Comment! [Tech, On the Move]

Midday top 10 losers: PAY -39%. GENT -23%. EBIX -23%. PATK -16%. XRSC -16%. CMGE -16%. CHLN -16%. RBCN -15%. RFMD -15%. ANTP -14%. Comment! [On the Move] - Thursday, February 21, 1:13 PM More on Raymond James' downgrade of Skyworks (SWKS -12.6%), TriQuint (TQNT -7.3%), and RF Micro (RFMD -14.6%): Analyst Tavis McCourt calls Qualcomm's (QCOM -1.1%) RF front end announcement a "bombshell," given the mobile chip giant's track record. However, he grants Qualcomm's entry into new markets is often met with "modest success" at first. He thinks the solution, which Qualcomm claims offers superior integration and lower design times, is aimed at China. OEM products containing it are due in 2H. ANAD -8.1%. AVGO -2.5%. 1 Comment [Tech, On the Move]

Premarket gainers: MAPP +59%. TELK +23%. CREE +14%. ISRG +9%. RFMD +6%. ACAD +6%. GOOG +5%.
Losers: COH -17%. MCP -14%. NMRX -14%. STSI -11%. BNNY -8%. GD -5%. 1 Comment [On the Move] - Tuesday, January 22, 4:04 PM RF Micro Devices (RFMD): Q4 EPS of $0.08 beats by $0.02. Revenue of $271.2M beats by $25.59M. Shares +3.3% AH. (PR) Comment! [Earnings, Breaking News, Tech, On the Move]
- Thursday, January 10, 10:27 AM Cirrus Logic (CRUS +3.2%) is trading higher this morning, and so are RF component makers Skyworks (SWKS +3.2%), TriQuint (TQNT +2.4%), and RF Micro (RFMD +2.9%). Guidance hikes from Nokia and Apple-dependent Dialog Semi seem to be contributing to the gains. Comment! [Tech, On the Move]
- Thursday, January 3, 10:50 AM RF component makers TriQuint (TQNT +4.1%), RF Micro (RFMD +3.7%), and (to a lesser extent) Skyworks (SWKS +1.6%) trade higher after Longbow gives each of them a Buy rating. Skyworks and TriQuint have slumped since mid-September, which happens to be around when the iPhone 5 launched - both chipmakers have iPhone 5 power amplifier design wins. RF Micro, whose shares were more depressed at the time, has fared better. Comment! [Tech, On the Move]
- Thursday, December 13, 2012, 12:59 PM More on Barclays' upgrade of RF Micro (RFMD +7.3%): Analyst Blayne Curtis think the chipmaker will capture the majority of an estimated $400M-$500M market for mobile phone antenna tuners in 2014. He also sees potential for RF Micro to win antenna switch and power amplifier designs for the next-gen iPhone; thinks the company could gain share on smartphones using Qualcomm and Broadcom baseband chips, and views low-end 3G smartphones as a growth driver. Comment! [Tech, On the Move, Quick Ideas]
- Thursday, December 13, 2012, 10:12 AM RF Micro Devices (RFMD +9.1%) soars after receiving an upgrade to Overweight from Barclays, which is setting a PT of $6. Shares haven't performed well over the last couple of years, thanks in large part to the power amplifier vendor's exposure to share-losing Nokia, RIM, and HTC. But it also has some Samsung exposure and two iPhone 5 design wins. (yesterday) Comment! [Tech, On the Move]

$RFMD went up a lot lately. It's time to sell it and wait when it drops to $4.70-5.00. Should not take a long time for the drop in price. - View all 0 replies

John Rayhall: I think it goes back to 5.25. Thing about this stock other on that rare day when it spikes up or down big it doesn't seem to move at all. -
stocktrend: Anyone knows why ARMH is very weak today? Reported good earnings and upbeat guidance bought some today at close @28.11 for quick swing.

Windsun33: To be honest - in this market, consider any recommendation as short term. For now at least, "buy and hold" is pretty much a loser. -
DAG1996: yes i agree. just meant it helps to know whether you're speaking to someone who only day trades, only shorts, etc. guess i'm too picky
