Wanted, Dead or Alive: The iPhone Killer [view article]
Does any other phone manufacturer push software updates at you like Apple does with the iPhone? This feature alone is worth the price of entry, existing users will get increased functionality with each new release, so they wont necessarily be left behind by a 3G iPhone other than the obvious radio chipset differences. EDGE is still more widespread the HSDPA (3G) in the US. I would expect a sales turnaround in other parts of the world where 3G is king. What I am missing from the Apple camp is more country specific availability announcements. May be Apple went ahead with UK, France, Germany, Ireland etc to appease the iPhone leakage to those countries. I want to see countries like India, China, Japan, Russia, Brazil get their official announcements, but Apple is waiting for the 3G iPhone for those markets. ReplyWanted, Dead or Alive: The iPhone Killer [view article]
It's ludicrous to even put the Voyager in the same category as the iPhone. The Voyager is a fake iPhone that you can actually use to make calls.Uh, Apple is milking the market for all it's worth. That is why they didn't come out with the bleeding edge 3G (in US at least) from the get-go. That would be stupid. And, yeah, 'innovation' amonst traditional phones or 'smart' phones is pretty similar to innovation on the PC. Just put a faster chip in there, or maybe a larger screen, etc... but the iPhone is like the iPod. You don't have to understand computing to see that the iPod and iPhone are decades ahead of the 'competition'.

The Indian BlackBerry Ban Back On… At Least Temporarily
The Home Ministry of India has asked telecom operators to halt certain BlackBerry services until an approved monitoring system that will allow the government to intercept and decrypt messages sent between BlackBerry devices and the secure network they run on is put into place.
The department of telecommunications (DoT) and Research in Motion have been going back and forth with proposed solutions to India’s security concerns for the past several weeks without coming to a general consensus and thus, the government has issued temporary ban on all PIN messaging, BIS email, and BES email.
Sources say that RIM has asked that the be given until the end of the month to address the security concerns. BlackBerry service is still working right now, however, the heat is on for RIM. India represents way too big an opportunity for RIM not to come up with an acceptable solution.

<I wonder why Apple has taken so long to release the 3G phone.>You think they are just sitting on it? It's in development and needs certification from the FCC too.
<How difficult can it be to make as compared to the 2G?>
Very difficult. They had to put a whole new chip set in there and then make sure their battery life didn't go to hell. That last part there is not trivial by any means.
<It's got to be strategy rather than manufacturing time or difficulty level.>
I think you are wrong. Apple engineers are working their asses off to meet some sort of stringent Steve deadline. That is the way it always is at Apple.

Regarding CROX: Does anyone know when insiders can buy the stock? There is probably a blackout period around the Q1 results. When it opens, it will be a tell if the insiders come back in. They made hundreds of millions last year selling. If they come back in, then I'm in. Overseas growth cannot be ignored. PS my family (especially the 80 year olds and the healthcare workers) swear by the comfort of these shoes. ReplyUnder The Radar News - Wednesday [view article]
Re Politician wants to age-limit energy drinks. That would be a first step in a right direction - legalize drugs. Just imagine positive impact on our economy if we would stop wasting billions on unnecessary law enforcement, military operations abroad, and jailing millions of people. Well, that would be too sane, never mind. ReplyWatcher

The shoes are ugly and about as practical as Jelly shoes from the 80's. They stick out like a sore thumb and most people that have them are almost embarrassed to wear them anymore. Even people over in Europe and Asia are turning their noses up to Crocs. It was time for the tacky fad to end. Sad end to a pathetic one-hit-wonder company. ReplyWas Peter Lynch Wrong? "Of course, there are "trendy" or "hot" products/services/busi... that continue to grow and expand, despite skepticism. Examples of this are Google (GOOG), Starbucks (SBUX) and Blackberry devices (RIMM), at least up until the present time."what a joke comment. blackberries are tremendous productivity tools while google provides a measurable advertising system. both provide value to the end user/client. these are not "hot" products or companies that will suddenly fade because teenager tastes are fickle. Here we are writing off a product line before we know for sure whether the problem with the Company is product or the overall decline in the sector and the economy. If any one can tell me how to quantify and attribute the declining sales to declining brand image, I would accept your argument as rationale and sceintific. Right now no one has any clue whether Crocs have lost their appeal or the US economy has lost its punch. ReplyWanted, Dead or Alive: The iPhone Killer [view article]
Yes, all they ever did was add a camera and a keyboard. The iPhone is NOT a phone, its a mini-computer with the best OS there is.
Its never going to be a cheap mass-market device, but it will be almost impossible for any phone co. to make something as good.
I will never use another kind of phone - the iPhone is the ONE!
