A JV between Baidu (BIDU) and Japanese e-commerce giant Rakuten (RKUNF.PK) that sought to challenge Alibaba (ALBCF.PK) and 360buy's Chinese e-commerce dominance has officially ended. Launched in 2010 to high hopes, the JV, called Lekutian, was plagued by payment-collection issues, tough price competition, and Rakuten's struggles to adapt to Chinese consumer preferences.

Japanese antitrust regulators are giving the thumbs-up to Yahoo Japan (YHOO) to adopt Google's (GOOG) search engine in its portal. The approval, which comes over objections from Microsoft (MSFT), essentially hands the duo dominance over nearly the entire country's search market.

Amazon (AMZN) will revamp its site to sell in regions beyond the U.S. and the half dozen other countries where it does business. An international platform development team will enable new language translations and regional tax, pricing, and delivery adjustments. Premarket, Amazon is +1.4% to $179.80.
