Tuesday, June 18, 5:51 AM Paris Air Show: As widely expected, Boeing (BA) has officially launched the 787-10, a stretched version of the Dreamliner with up to 330 seats, and said it already has orders for 102 jets from five buyers (PR). One of these is United Airlines (UAL), which will be the launch customer in North America with a booking for 20 aircraft, including an upgrade on 10 existing 787 orders. Air Lease Corp. (AL) has booked 30 (PR). Meanwhile, Ryanair's (RYAAY) shareholders have approved the carrier's acquisition of 175 Boeing 737 aircraft in a deal worth $15.6B at list prices. 2 Comments [Top Stories]
Thursday, May 30, 3:52 PM More frustration for Ryanair (RYAAY): the U.K. Competition Commission issued a provisional finding that could result in the airline having to sell some or all of its 29.8% stake in Aer LIngus. In the three-plus years Ryanair has owned the shares, it has tried three times to buy the rest, shot down each time by EC regulators, most recently in February. The airline is appealing that ruling, and intends to appeal the U.K. ruling once the final version is handed down in July. Comment! [Consumer]
Friday, May 3, 1:55 PM Global airline passenger traffic picked up in March, according to the latest batch of data from IATA. International traffic was up 6% while domestic traffic grew at a 5.7% clip. Analyst Rahul Sharma notes emerging markets helped drive the growth and thinks recent fare increases shows confidence by the group that demand will sustain. Tuesday, March 12, 7:00 AM Boeing (BA) has reportedly received an $18B order from Dublin-based Ryanair (RYAAY) for 200 jets in a deal that is set to be confirmed next week, when Irish Taoiseach Enda Kenny visits the White House. It's not clear whether Ryanair will acquire the 737-800 or Boeing's new 'Max' model. Tuesday, November 13, 2012, 8:33 AM While the main commercial-aircraft battle is between Boeing (BA) and Airbus, China has begun to stake its territory, with COMAC announcing 50 new orders for its 150-seat C919 jet. That takes total bookings to 380, around the plane's break-even point. So far, the only confirmed foreign buyer is GE unit GECAS, although Ryanair and British Airways have signed tentative purchase agreements. Comment!
