Just What the Telcos Didn't Want to Hear [view article]
You should have consulted your Horoscope before making changes in your investment strategy. It might have been more accurate than using a baseless Chicken Little memo. Better sell off the stocks of companies that make microwave ovens while you're at it. Reply

Another great Dividend Stock is Hersha Hospitality HT. Hersha has paid dividend of $.18 per share per quarter for 37 consecutive quarters.
    Stock price as of 9:43 AM on 7-22 is $6.60. That's a sweet 10.9%.

Given that we still have several banks to report, we could still have some volatility and some retracement of financials that could pose some investment opportunities. Reply

If Sprint can grow its earnings by 20% in 2009 then the stock is a buy. The question is, can they? Can they really become profitable? Does Sk think they can? This is the question. Reply

Why the Online Video Business Is a Joke [view article]
Tedstr has made a number of valid point. Ash's analysis make sense, but would like to assess his detailed US $100m proposal to see how WatchMojo.com can help build a real monitize online video business. $100m equity implies a valuation of over $1.5 billion, and that remains hard to justify in terms of Tedstr's technical drawbacks, etc. Reply

Why the Online Video Business Is a Joke [view article]
    So complicated.

The simple reality is that TV advertising, that is the real big money in TV advertising, is all about brand and image. It is not about Google, lead generation, DR marketing (though there is some of that on the low end), targeting etc and the other parlour tricks of the web business. Video is about big time brand building.

When you are in that business you must have quality trusted environments and engaged users and reliable technology. Online video has none of that. Except for a few young demographic brands, the real money will not be playing with YouTube or any of the other user generated (READ: free and low cost) stuff.

Add to that that, video just doesn't fit well with the online experience. Online is forward leaning, TV is lean back. How many online video screens have you clicked away from because you just don't want to wait for the load up?

Add to that Google is not about branding. It's not in their DNA.

Online video will take a couple of billion away from traditional TV, enough to make them very nervous for the next few years, but ultimately it will be a side show.

"You need steel" no matter the improvement project, the fund manager said. Steel producers comprise the largest portion of the portfolio, at about 9% of assets. "What's most important," Dzierwa noted, "is that this is a fully-integrated steel company. CSN has its own internally generated iron ore -- and we've seen how iron ore [prices] have been behaving -- in addition to steel."
Iron ore is the key material used to make steel, and its largest producers -- Brazil's Companhia Vale do Rio Doce and Anglo-Australian mining firms Rio Tinto and BHP Billiton Ltd -- have boosted their prices by at least 71% over the last year.
"[CSN] is producing steel at the same time as raw material, so it is not exposed to price fluctuations," Dzierwa said. "It helps manage margins much better than if you were at the mercy of an outside supplier."

Keep in mind that Pakistan has the largest WiMax network, their Mobilink Inifinity prices are Rs 1200 for unlimited data and voice at 1 Mbps. (around $20 per month) and you have to buy a router. Wateen is also offering Wi-Max. Reply

When you send $700B a year overseas, you can expect that money to buy things in America eventually. You want them all to buy subprime real estate and go to Disney World? Maybe they would rather have productive US corporations instead. A lot of us will wind up working for foreign-owned companies in the future. Reply

Why are you surprised? The dollar is in the tank. The FREE MARKET that everyone seems to love equals exactly what is happening. We have a 700 billion dollar trade deficit and the so called experts think the dollar should be strong???? Europe can buy us at a 50% discount!!!!! I am surprised we still have 50 states!!!! Reply
