[On the Move] - Wednesday, April 17, 4:55 PM Select Comfort (SCSS) slides 7.2% AH as the company's guidance disappoints. SCSS says it will earn $1.30-1.45 per share in FY2013 versus previous guidance of $1.65-1.80. The Street meanwhile, was expecting $1.52. (See: SCSS misses) Comment! [Consumer, On the Move]

- Wednesday, March 27, 3:27 PM Select Comfort (SCSS +6.7%) is up nicely on the session along with other mattress names after Raymond James analyst Budd Bugatch says "high inventory turnover and positive cash dynamics" make the mattress retail sector attractive. Comment! [Consumer]
- Friday, March 22, 8:18 AM Stifel Nicolaus upgrades Mattress Firm (MFRM) to a Buy rating from Hold with a $37 price target. Shares of MFRM are 1.7% higher premarket while the mattress sector (TPX, ZZ, SCSS) is on watch for a sympathy rally. Comment! [Consumer, On the Move]

[On the Move] - Monday, March 4, 10:22 AM An earnings warning from Select Comfort (SCSS -16.1%) is taking its toll on shares in early trading. Though the company says the issue is a short-term issue related to "accelerated changes" made to its media-buying strategy, investors aren't quite buying it on concerns a larger demand issue is in play. Comment! [Consumer, On the Move]
- Wednesday, February 27, 10:32 AM Tempur-Pedic (TPX +7.2%) and Select Comfort (SCSS +2.2%) trade higher after KeyBanc says mattress sales accelerated in January. The mattress sector is viewed as more susceptible than most to pressure on middle-income consumers. Comment! [Consumer, On the Move]

1 Comment [On the Move] - Friday, January 25, 8:12 AM Things are all topsy-turvy in the mattress sector. Though both Tempur-Pedic (TPX) and Select Comfort (SCSS) reported weak sales trends (I, II), TPX is up 16.5% premarket while SCSS is off 15.6% as the former company beat estimates and the latter one lagged. The most important message flowing out from the sector is that both sales and margins fell during Q4. Mattress Firm (MFRM) is up 1.1% premarket, while Sealy (ZZ) is inactive, but both look set for some volatility of their own. 1 Comment [Consumer, On the Move]
- Friday, January 25, 8:03 AM Shares of Select Comfort (SCSS) get dismantled in premarket action, falling 19.4%, after the company misses estimates with its Q4 report and guides its view for 2013 profits lower. The company says it was hit with a "significant sales slowdown" in the last two weeks of December. Comment! [Consumer, On the Move]
