- Tuesday, May 28, 7:42 AM More on Seadrill's (SDRL) Q1 results: Says Q1 was its best-ever operating quarterly result and expects continued strength in Q2. Operating profit for floaters - SDRL's largest segment - was flat, but operating profit for jack-up rigs was $145M vs. $67M a year ago. Overall operating margin narrowed to 38.8% from 43.4%; operating expenses jumped 30%. Shares +2.8% premarket. 1 Comment [Energy, Earnings, On the Move]
- Tuesday, March 19, 12:35 PM Rowan (RDC -3%) says it's open to forming a tax-advantaged partnership for some of its rigs, CEO Matt Ralls says, but will let another rig contractor such as Transocean (RIG) prove the effectiveness of the MLP structure first. “The jury’s still out" on the Seadrill (SDRL) partnership, Ralls says: “When you look at the way their stock trades, it’s not clear they’ve improved." Comment! [Energy, On the Move]
- Monday, November 26, 2012, 9:48 AM Seadrill (SDRL -1.5%) opens lower after its Q3 profit surged on stronger revenue but results missed Wall Street estimates. In its conference call, SDRL says operational performance so far in Q4, while still being impacted by subsea issues experienced in Q3, is trending back to normal, and it anticipates significant improvement in Q4 results. 2 Comments [Energy, Earnings, On the Move]
- Monday, November 26, 2012, 8:55 AM Seadrill (SDRL): declares $0.85/share quarterly dividend, 1.2% increase from prior dividend of $0.84. Forward yield 8.61%. Shares -2.2% premarket. (PR) 1 Comment [Dividends, On the Move]
- Monday, November 26, 2012, 8:53 AM Seadrill (SDRL): Q3 EPS of $0.40 may not be comparable to consensus of $0.68. Revenue of $1.09B (+6.1% Y/Y). Shares -2.5% premarket. (PR) 3 Comments [Earnings, Energy, On the Move]
- Monday, September 10, 2012, 10:43 AM Seadrill (SDRL -1.9%) is cut to Neutral at HSBC Securities, which notes industry fundamentals remain strong but the surprise factor is limited. The firm says $4B of ultra-deepwater contracts in July are a clear sign of drilling market momentum, but upside to market expectations is more limited vs. elsewhere in oil services. Also, SDRL plans to sell $1B in unsecured notes via a private offering for institutional investors. 15 Comments [Energy, Quick Ideas, On the Move]
- Monday, August 27, 2012, 8:38 AM More on Seadrill's (SDRL) Q2: Higher operating expenses masked strong revenue gains. Operating profit for floaters, SDRL's largest segment, rose 1.2% to $345M, jack-up rigs reported a 20% rise, while tender rigs posted $78M in profit (95% increase). SDRL says it expects to continue to show solid growth in Q3. Shares +1.9% premarket. Comment! [Energy, Earnings, On the Move]
- Friday, August 24, 2012, 10:32 AM Frontline (FRO +5.2%) is upgraded to Neutral from Sell at Goldman, which says valuation no longer supports a Sell rating while staying cautious on the crude tanker outlook for the next two years given supply/demand imbalance. The firm also bumps Seadrill (SDRL -0.3%) to Neutral, reflecting its positive view on day rates and deep water drilling fundamentals. 8 Comments [Energy, Quick Ideas, On the Move]
- Tuesday, July 3, 2012, 8:15 AM Seadrill (SDRL) says its Seadrill Partners subsidiary has filed for an IPO. On completion of the offering, Seadrill Partners is expected to have an interest in two semi-submersible drilling rigs, one drillship and one semi-tender rig from SDRL's rig fleet. SDRL +2.1% premarket. 2 Comments [Energy, On the Move]
- Thursday, June 21, 2012, 3:58 PM Investors prospecting for yields might want to drill into SeaDrill (SDRL -3.3%), where they’ll find a 9.9% dividend yield. HSBC thinks that’s appealing, as it upgrades shares to Overweight from Neutral due to a sound fundamental backdrop and equity market weakness; the firm also notes structural growth in the subsea installation market. 5 Comments [Energy, Quick Ideas, On the Move]
- Thursday, June 14, 2012, 10:38 AM Shipping tycoon John Fredriksen is set to raise his stake in Seadrill (SDRL +2%), after selling shares earlier this year, as the rig contractor’s share price has slumped in recent months. Fredriksen will exercise a put option to buy back up to 6M shares from Goldman Sachs, or a quarter of the 24M shares it sold for more than $1B earlier this year. 2 Comments [Energy, On the Move]
- Monday, June 4, 2012, 8:34 AM Seadrill (SDRL) is in advanced discussions about a new five-year contract for its West Polaris drillship. The new contract will start in direct continuation of the existing assignment scheduled to be completed in October. The potential contract revenue for the five-year period is ~$1.16B. SDRL -2.5% premarket. 5 Comments [Energy, On the Move]
- Wednesday, May 30, 2012, 8:53 AM Seadrill (SDRL) -1.5% premarket after reducing its stake in Malaysian partner SapuraKencana Petroleum, selling 300M shares for ~$200M. Following the transaction, SDRL will continue to hold 319.5M shares in SapuraKencana, or a 6.4% stake. 4 Comments [Energy, Global & FX, On the Move]
- Monday, May 14, 2012, 10:38 AM Seadrill's (SDRL -1.8%) Q1 earnings fell 53% Y/Y, boosted by the sale of its Seawell subsidiary, masking revenues that came in better than expected. The Norwegian oil services firm expects a boost in the current quarter from two ultra-deepwater rigs starting operations, as well as a full quarter of earnings from a jack-up rig that went into operation in March. 2 Comments [Energy, On the Move]
- Monday, May 14, 2012, 6:04 AM Seadrill (SDRL): Q1 EPS of $0.89 beats by $0.18. Revenue of $1.5B (-5.4% Y/Y) in-line. Shares -2% premarket. (PR) 4 Comments [Earnings, Energy, On the Move]

$SDRL just slaughtered earnings estimates. I'll have a full analysis out ASAP but a cursory glance is looking pretty good... - View all 2 replies

Energysystems: The only thing I don't like is lower margins and higher administrative costs. Hopefully, it's not a trend, but other than that, aces by JF. -
Power Hedge: Well, hopefully the lower margins will be less of a problem once the new drillships come online.

Beats on EPS and Revs and a divi boost. Works for me $SDRL, this is its best operating quarterly result ever. - View all 12 replies

DAG1996: Maybe you're expecting too much too soon. Deep-water & rough terrain drilling is a long-term play on where O&G is headed (years vs. months).

Energysystems: I liked the move for $PXP, not as much the $MMR move. I also bought after the acquisition news broke and $FCX dove. -
Energysystems: Personally, I would've rather seen $PXP along with some strategic asset buys in acreage on shore instead of $MMR, but that's me.

James Sands: This coincidentally may be a major benefit as the USPS continues to struggle and reorganize ops.
