      <title>Cisco Going for the Consumer (CSCO)</title>

        <![CDATA[<p><img src="http://static.seekingalpha.com/wp-content/seekingalpha/images/giancarlo.jpg" border="1" hspace="7" alt="" align="left" />In an interview with the <a href="http://www.ft.com">Financial Times</a> over the weekend, Cisco's Chief Development Officer Charles Giancarlo (pictured left) said that the growing demands from consumers for Internet devices presents a new opportunity for the company.  According to Giancarlo, "Consumer electronics companies have been able to compete on a standalone device but the dynamics of the market are changing. The Internet and new networking requirements are enough of a disruptor for us to enter a new market."

<p>Cisco has already made some moves in the consumer space.  In 2003, Cisco acquired Linksys, a manufacturer of wireless home routers, webcams and other accessories for $500 million.  And as Red Herring <a href="http://www.redherring.com/Article.aspx?a=15319&hed=Cisco+to+Pack+Retail+Shelves&sector=Industries&subsector=EntertainmentAndMedia">notes</a>:
