STILL CONFUSED! CAN YOU JUST SAY IT IN SIMPLE TERMS..THANKS Reply

Sorry last sentence should be:The long interest is the float. High short % presumably increases buying interest above normal trading volumes. Reply
Stocks with the Highest Short Interest [view article]
Shorted stocks supposedly are borrowed from longs via the longs' brokers and sold. (I say supposedly because naked shorting has become quite the fashion but I will let more sophisticated traders tell us how that works.) The short speculator or arbitrager has cash and owes the long the stock. Should the stock go down, the short purchases it on the open market and returns the stock to the long. The difference is the profit. Should the stock go up, the short must repurchase at a loss and replace. Thus the % of the stock float sold short shows you how much potential pent-up buying exists in a given security. If the shorts are wrong about a stock, their buying tacked on to normal buying can result in excessive movements to the upside. Thus the float is the long interest plus the short covering potential. Board and Executive Compensation in S&P 500 [view article]
when I read the insiders activities on the stocks that i own i always see large blocks of stocks being sold or option being exercised. As a stock holder i paid for my shares these insiders didn't there shares came from the stockholders. The only company i have that has honest management is brk.a/b ReplyEli Hoffmann

Hi guys. Thought I'd pipe in here. Rachael came on board with SA recently and is helping out with some of the duties, including filling in with the WSB when I'm out. This week was a training-in period for her. I think you'll agree her writing is superb, and she's a great addition to the team - not to speak of the mug shot 'upgrade.'Which reminds me: We're looking to hire a full-time, detail-oriented U.S.-based market follower with superb writing and blogging skills - mainly to help with our new Market Currents real-time blog. If you're interested, or can think of anyone, send me an email at eli [at] seekingalpha [dot] com. Reply

Looks like all the school boys have picked up their marbles and gone home. Good riddance. Boycotting Wall Street Breakfast because of a switch to a just-as-competent editor will not detract from its popularity. I can assure you the kids are still reading it - but mistakenly think their action will have a negative effect.... ReplyEarnings Preview: Sears Holdings [view article]

Sears Holdings: A Business Plan [view article]
Will,You seem to be oblivious to the huge array of problems at Sears.
After the release of earnings today - 8/28/08 - it should be quite clear to any thinking investor that SHLD is deeply troubled in its core business, and is only propping the stock by drawing down inventory (both in quantity and quality) to raise cash to buy back the stock...while it still can.
Almost 60% of Q2-08 earnings were from an accounting adjustment, not operations.
I look for a much lower price point for SHLD within a few months - maybe $40?
