- Monday, May 20, 11:04 AM Sangamo BioSciences (SGMO -4.5%) takes a bit of a hit this morning, despite the presentation of new data demonstrating the successful application of its In Vivo Protein Replacement Platform in a mouse model. The company, in partnership with Shire (SHPG +1.8%), is developing ZFP Therapeutics for both hemophilia A and B using this approach. The data was presented late last week at the 16th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Gene and Cell Therapy in Salt Lake City. 3 Comments [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Friday, May 10, 1:14 PM Shire (SHPG -0.2%) lags the overall market after JP Morgan/Cazenove cut the shares to Neutral, citing a lack of catalysts. The firm says its pipeline is now a 2014 story, as its Phase III studies of Vyvanse for depression, as well as versus Concerta for ADHD, aren't likely to have any impact over the near term. Comment! [Healthcare, Global & FX]
- Thursday, May 2, 9:08 AM Shire plc (SHPG): Q1 Earning per ADS of $1.63. Revenue of $1.16B misses by $0.05B. (PR) Comment! [Earnings, Breaking News, Healthcare]
- Thursday, April 25, 12:13 PM Actavis (ACT +1%) reaches a settlement with Shire (SHPG +1.6%) regarding an outstanding patent litigation related to ACT's generic version of Intuniv, a treatment for ADHD. Under the terms of the settlement, ACT can launch its generic version of Intuniv on December 1, 2014, or earlier under certain circumstances. SHPG will receive a 25% royalty on gross profits from sales during the period of exclusivity. Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Monday, March 25, 8:26 AM Shire (SHPG) will acquire California-based, privately held biopharmaceutical company SARcode Bioscience for an upfront payment of $160M plus additional undisclosed payments as certain milestones are met. Shire says the acquisition will strengthen its portfolio by adding a phase 3 compound called LIFITEGRAST indicated for the treatment of dry eye disease. Comment! [Healthcare, M&A]
- Tuesday, March 12, 8:39 AM Shire (SHPG +0.3% in London) has acquired closely held Swedish company Premacure, which is developing a protein replacement therapy for the prevention of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), a rare eye disorder that primarily affects premature babies and is one of the most common causes of blindness in childhood. The treatment is in Phase II trials. Shire made an upfront payment and will pay royalties. (PR) Comment! [Healthcare, M&A]
- Thursday, February 14, 3:10 PM Teva Pharmaceutical (TEVA +0.3%) says the FDA has approved its Abbreviated New Drug Application for the generic version of Shire's (SHPG) Adderall XR capsules for the treatment of ADD. Adderall XR had annual sales, including brand and generic sales, of approximately $2B in the U.S. last year. 5 Comments [Healthcare]
- Thursday, February 14, 8:04 AM More on Shire (SHPG) Q4: adjusted operating income flat at $368M as sales gained 5%, although results were hurt by generic competition for Adderall XR (ADHD). Expects 2013 earnings per ADS of $6.72, in line with consensus, but forecasts royalties and other revenues to fall 30-40%. Shares -3.7%. (PR) Comment! [Earnings, Healthcare]
- Thursday, February 14, 7:21 AM Shire (SHPG): Q4 EPS of $1.58. Revenue of $1.2B in-line. Shares -4% premarket. (PR) Comment! [Earnings, Breaking News, Healthcare, On the Move]

- Tuesday, February 12, 3:33 PM AstraZeneca Plc (AZN) needs to make a big buy to reverse its slide, recommends a number of Wall Street analysts, saying the drugmaker needs a "transformational deal" to return it to profit growth. A deal for Shire (SHPG +0.2%) or Forest Labs (FRX +0.7%) would rival its's $15B acquisition of MedImmune in 2007. SHPG could help fill the gap with patent-protected medicines for rare diseases and leading ADD therapies, says Kepler Capital Markets, while FRX's lung treatment would bolster the company's respiratory business. Comment! [Healthcare, M&A]
- Wednesday, February 6, 5:14 PM More on Sangamo Biosciences (SGMO): Q4 beats on both top and bottom line as higher revenues were generated from the Company's collaboration agreements with Shire (SHPG), Dow AgroSciences (DAS) and Sigma-Aldrich Corporation (SIAL), plus additional research grants. The company guides FY2013 revenue slightly to the lower side of estimates, now expecting to earn between $20M -24M, versus the consensus of $23.09M. Shares -1% AH. Comment! [Healthcare, Earnings, On the Move]
- Thursday, January 17, 7:47 AM Shire (SHPG) is +0.4% in London although it was higher earlier in the day on chatter that it might be interesting AstraZeneca (AZN +1.1%). A major acquisition of over $20B, says Credit Suisse, could be a solution to AstraZeneca's expected revenue decline. How lovely then that Shire's market cap is $18.71B. Comment! [Healthcare]
- Wednesday, January 9, 9:00 AM Shire (SHPG +1.9% in London ) expects "to deliver double-digit" earnings growth in 2012, CEO Angus Russell told the JPM Healthcare conference yesterday, with the company "increasingly confident of meeting current consensus earnings expectations for 2013." Analysts predict earnings per ADS of $6.69. (Presentation) Comment! [Earnings, Healthcare]
