Shaw (SJR) is acquiring Enmax Envision, Canadian utility Enmax's telecom subsidiary, for $225M. Envision user a fiber network to provider broadband services to business customers in the Calgary area. Shaw will fund the deal using on-hand cash and an existing credit facility. The deal comes 3 months after Shaw sold an Ontario cable unit to Rogers. (PR)

Shaw (SJR) is selling its Mountain Cablevision unit, which provides cable TV services in the Hamilton, Ontario area, as well as the option to acquire wireless spectrum licenses for several Canadian provinces, to Rogers (RCI) for $700M in cash. Separately, Shaw is paying Rogers $59M to acquire its 33.3% stake in the companies' jointly-owned TVtropolis channel.

The download caps placed by Canadian ISPs such as BCE and Shaw (SJR) are "almost a human rights violation," says Netflix's (NFLX) chief content officer - the caps have forced Netflix to make non-HD streams the default option in the country. CEO Reed Hastings has bashed both Canadian (as well as American) broadband prices before, but they haven't stopped the company from getting 15% of Canadians to subscribe to its streaming service.
