Time to Add RVs to Your Portfolio? [view article]
As a follow-up, I sold most of my position in THO and just missed selling the balance near 32 late Friday. While the stock doesn't face resistance now until 34, this short-squeeze is played out for the most part. I continue to believe that the longer-term prospects are favorable and would hope to reenter, perhaps near 28. ReplyBrochstein

I am not sure, but in my review of DW, I saw that they are working to improve fuel efficiency, but I don't recall the details. You can be assured that the higher prices of fuel will lead to innovation in this area as well. ReplyTime to Add RVs to Your Portfolio? [view article]
Maybe I've missed the news on this one somewhere, but have their already been attempts of making hybrid fueled RVs? One of the most common perceptions of 'green' autos is that have to be tiny, what about flipping that coin and producing energy and fuel conscious RVs? Replyah

Congratulations to those who held on to your homebuilder shorts since the date of this article in February '08 and through the bounce in May. The FED, FRE, FNM, and others have attempted to float the market to buy time, but in the end, market will always return to fundamentals.Reply

I too have been unable to borrow shares in ITB, haven't tried XHB though. Can anyone recommend an inverse ETF or bear market ETF for homebuilders? This is really what's desired here as it would do best to hedge against speculation and keep trading costs and expenses low. ReplyOutlook For Manufactured Housing [view article]
What kind of an idiot would want to own a manufactured house yet paying rent on the space it is parked on... What an idiot!! ReplyEditors

Is this a buy or a sell? ReplyCan't Short XHB? Create Your Own Homebuilders ETF to Short [view article]
One of the most useful columns I've read on this website. The credit markets are pricing in much more pain for the homebuilders, and several of them will be bankrupt soon enough as their earnings disappear, their ability to refinance debt is severely reduced, and the cash they are hoarding now is eliminated as they are forced to finally pay down their debt. ReplyCan't Short XHB? Create Your Own Homebuilders ETF to Short [view article]
Finding ITB shares to borrow can be hit/miss, although it is a better index to short as it is homebuilders only, assuming that is what you are looking for. ReplyCan't Short XHB? Create Your Own Homebuilders ETF to Short [view article]
Although XHB wasn't available for shorting, you might try ITB (iShares DJ US Home Construction index), which I was able to short. ReplyOutlook For Manufactured Housing [view article]
I can see why Clayton Homes is making money.Having owned a mobile home park, I can speak with experience in that the appearance and construction details described in their web site makes it one of the least desirable Manufactured homes on the market from a construction point of view.
Most manufactured homes in this area have 2 x 6 exterior walls, not 2 x 4, flat ceilings in many models, OSB floors and roofs, ( Not good ), and primative designs. In other words , very cheaply made, but probably selling for high prices,..big profit margins !
Most buyers are looking for a style of Manufactured home that has the appearance of a site built home. Better insulation, optional garages, etc. Clayton does not appear to offer that !
