Monday, June 17, 9:22 AM Paris Air Show: Embraer (ERJ +4.1%) unveils potential orders for up to 365 of its new more fuel-efficient E-Jets E2 family of aircraft, including a firm order for 100 planes from launch customer SkyWest (SKYW) (PR). The regional carrier also has options for another 100 jets, which would make the whole deal worth $9.36B at list prices. International Lease Finance (AIG) signs a letter of intent (LOI) to acquire 50 jets from Embraer and takes an option for another 50 (PR). Monday, June 3, 9:31 AM IATA boosts its 2013 profit forecast for the airline industry to $12.7B from $10.6B previously (and up 67% from 2012) thanks to better traffic and lower-than-expected fuel prices. The industry load factor is expected to hit a record 80.3% this year, 6 points higher than the previous record set in 2006. Tuesday, May 21, 10:42 AM Shares in Embraer (ERJ +3.3%) move up after it and SkyWest (SKYW -0.4%) earlier announced a firm order for 40 Embraer 175 aircraft. Additionally, another 60 firm orders were reconfirmable aircraft, subject to SkyWest being awarded CPA agreement contracts with United Airlines. Tuesday, May 21, 6:58 AM United Continental (UAL) says it signed a capacity agreement with Skywest (SKYW) to operate 40 Embraer 175 aircraft under the United Express brand name. The deal is in addition to previous Embraer 175 jets ordered for United Express. Comment! [Consumer]

So if weight is such a key concern for airlines' operations, why not charge for overweight passengers as well as overweight baggage? Tuesday, March 5, 2:27 PM IATA says passenger air travel rose 2.7% Y/Y in January, a mark which is higher the 2.2% gain in capacity. The agency says a calendar effect may have influenced the total with travel linked to the Chinese New Year falling in the period last year to boost results.
