- Wednesday, June 19, 4:18 PM Not escaping the post-FOMC, post-Bernanke selloff is gold (GLD -1.2%) which falls to $1,349 per ounce - key support as the technicians like to say as this is the level at which the metal's fast spring slide bounced from in both April and May. Underneath that, there's nothing but air going all the way back to 2009 and $800 per ounce. Ditto for silver (SLV -1.3%) and maybe even worse as that metal has cracked the April and May support. 11 Comments [Commodities, On the Move]

The week's ETF movers - Gainers: OIL +5.1%. USO +4.7%. BNO +4.6%. FXY +3.1%. DBC +1.7%.
ETF Losers: GAZ -4.7%. UNG -4.1%. PSLV -2.9%. SLV -2.7%. SIVR -2.6%. Comment! [On the Move] - Friday, June 7, 2:09 PM Gold miners large (GDX -4.1%) and small (GDXJ -5.3%) alike are suffering a beat-down after jobs data from both the U.S. and Canada beat estimates; gold's gains for the week are entirely erased, and the metal "could melt even faster" if the global recovery continues. ABX -4.2%, AEM -6.7%, NEM -2.8%, GG -4.5%, AU -5.5%, EGO -5%, KGC -5.3%. SLW -2.8%, SSRI -7.3%, EXK -5.9%. GLD -2%, SLV -4.1%. 39 Comments [Commodities, On the Move]
- Friday, June 7, 12:18 PM The kind of thing that never occurs at tops: Not pleased the poor performance of his gold fund (-47% YTD) is detracting from the good work at his other products, John Paulson will be mailing the gold fund's monthly figures separately and holding separate monthly conference calls. His firm will also stop broadly reporting the performance of the gold share class in its various funds (investors are allowed to own their stakes with gold instead of dollars). GLD -2.1%, SLV -3.8%. 12 Comments [Commodities, On the Move]
- Tuesday, May 28, 6:58 AM JPMorgan's commodities team slashes its price forecasts for most metals, lowering the 2013 estimate for gold to $1,595 from $1,745. The 2015 estimate is cut 5% to $1,650. Silver's 2013 outlook is cut to $27.89 from $30.01. Copper (JJC) to $3.50 to $3.64. GLD -0.1%, SLV -0.3% premarket. 7 Comments [Commodities]
- Wednesday, May 22, 10:09 AM Stocks pop higher (SPY +0.6%) as Bernanke's prepared remarks for Congress suggest an increase in QE is as likely as a "tapering." Gold (GLD +2.6%) and Silver (SLV +3.8%) get a charge, and bonds (TLT +0.5%) move higher. It's green across the board, but not participating is crude oil (USO -0.4%). Watch live here. 1 Comment [On the Move]
- Monday, May 20, 12:40 PM This just in. Precious metals (GLD +2.2%), (SLV +2.6%) are sharply higher on the session after a panicky Sunday evening plunge brought both to multi-year lows. Other than dollar weakness (UUP -0.5%) across the board, there's no news in particular - perhaps some satiated bears decided to cover and a trend took hold. 39 Comments [Commodities, On the Move]
- Monday, May 20, 11:27 AM Silver's (SLV -0.6%) 9% plunge in the first minutes of trading overnight is being linked to hawkish talk from Japanese Economy Minister Akira Amari who warned the yen's (FXY +0.7%) fast decline may be hurting the economy. One fails to see the connection but dollar/yen did dive along with silver and Andrew Wilkinson suggests hedge funds short the yen were forced to raise cash by bailing on stale silver longs. 11 Comments [Commodities, On the Move]
- Monday, May 20, 7:07 AM Silver (SLV) plunged to its lowest level in nearly 3 years overnight before a bounce brought it to its current price of $21.60, -3.3%. As with gold, silver ETP holdings have dropped to the lowest levels this year, and speculative short positions are on the rise, according to CFTC data. Gold (GLD) took out its April lows earlier - dropping as low as $1,338. A bounce has brought the metal back to $1,351, -1%. 17 Comments [Commodities, On the Move]

Friday, May 17, 4:49 PM
The week's ETF movers - Gainers: TAN +9.6%. XLF +3.7%. UNG +3.4%. GAZ +3.2%. EWJ +3.0%.
ETF Losers: GDXJ -14.2%. GDX -11.5%. PSLV -7.3%. SLV -6.9%. SIVR -6.7%. 1 Comment [On the Move] - Thursday, May 16, 7:18 AM Precious metals continue to tumble, with gold at $1,374 nearing the panicky lows (about $1,350) seen during April's liquidation. Any excuse will do in a bear market, and filings released yesterday containing data anywhere from 6 weeks to 5 months old showed continuing sales of gold ETPs by names such as Soros and BlackRock. GLD -1.3%, SLV -1.3% premarket. 9 Comments [Commodities, On the Move]
- Wednesday, May 15, 11:16 AM Gold (GLD -2.1%), (IAU -2.2%) sinks back below $1,400 as the bounce since mid-April is officially over. At work here, suggests RBC Capital, is the strong stock market. To participate, foreign investors sell gold, buy dollars (UUP is up big in May), and call their stockbrokers. Commerzbank notes gold ETF outflows were another 6 tons yesterday, bringing the total since early April to 230 tons. Silver (SLV -3.1%) tags along. 34 Comments [Commodities, On the Move]
- Friday, May 10, 7:33 AM The stronger dollar has precious metals resuming their decline in force (or is the decline in precious metals strengthening the dollar), with gold (GLD) off 2.3% and silver (SLV) off 2.2%. Crude oil (USO) pulls back a bit from its recent big rally, -0.9% to $95.53. 106 Comments [Commodities, On the Move]
- Thursday, May 9, 3:06 PM The dollar (UUP +1%) is soaring across the board (not just against the yen, where it's now spiked through ¥100 to ¥100.56). The greenback is threatening parity vs. the aussie (FXA -1.1%) for the first time since last summer, and the euro (FXE -1.1%), swissie (FXF -1.4%), loonie (FXC -0.5%), and pound (FXB -0.6%) are seeing sizable declines as well. Commodities? Red. Gold (GLD -1.1%), Silver (SLV -1.2%), Oil (USO -0.6%), Copper (JJC -0.8%). 5 Comments [Global & FX, Commodities, On the Move]
- Tuesday, May 7, 11:39 AM The bounce in precious metals takes a breather, with gold (GLD) off 1.6% and silver (SLV) off 1.2%. It's more tough news for John Paulson after his gold fund reportedly lost 27% in April, bringing the YTD loss to about 47%. Add David Einhorn to those taking a hit: "We were somewhat surprised by the swift decline," he said on the GLRE earnings call (transcript), especially given the BOJ's joining in "the global monetary printing race." Einhorn sees nothing to change his long-term bullish stance. 9 Comments [Commodities, Financials]
