Superior Energy (SPN +3%) is upgraded to Buy from Neutral with a $34 price target, up from $28, at Sterne Agee after posting solid Q1 results bolstered by a focus on costs. The firm believes earnings have bottomed, expects strong free cash in 2013-15, likes management focus on deleveraging and returning cash to shareholders, and sees shares attractively valued.

Key Energy Services (KEG -12.2%) plunges on this morning's downward guidance on Q3 revenues based on declines in U.S. drilling and completion-related activity; prior expectations were for core oil market activity to be relatively flat in H2. Instead, drilling rig counts in these markets are down ~8% since the beginning of Q3, CEO Dick Alario says. Peers BAS -8% and SPN -6.7% also lower.

Superior Energy (SPN) -9.9% AH after reporting Q2 profit that edged estimates while cutting its full-year earnings outlook, seeing EPS of $2.75-$3.05 vs. $3.30-$3.60 guidance and $3.16 consensus. "Continued low natural gas prices, a lower realized crude oil price and significant reductions in natural gas liquids prices are impacting our customers' cash flows," CEO David Dunlap says.
