- Friday, May 10, 10:58 AM Universal Display (PANL -12.1%) is now tumbling in the wake of its Q1 report and guidance reiteration. Investors may have wanted a guidance hike in light of strong early demand for Samsung's (SSNLF.PK) Galaxy S4. Also: materials cost rose by $2M Q/Q, something partly attributed on the earnings call to a mix shift (to green emitters?) and higher materials cost, and (in response to a question about slumping red emitter sales) PANL admitted customers are using materials more efficiently. On the bright side, management noted reports indicate Samsung's Galaxy Note III and an LG phone will feature flexible OLEDs; both are expected in Q4. - Thursday, April 25, 8:28 PM Samsung Electronics (SSNLF.PK) says its Q1 profit rose 42% to a record high on strong smartphone sales. Net profit rose to a record KRW7.15T ($6.4B), up from KRW5.05T a year earlier. Operating profit rose 54% to KRW8.8T from KRW5.7T. Sales rose 16.8% to KRW52.9T from KRW45.3T, coming in in line with the company's guidance of KRW51T to KRW53T. - Friday, April 5, 2:50 AM Samsung (SSNLF.PK) projects that its Q1 operating profit jumped 53% to 8.7T won ($7.7B), beating estimates of 8.38T won, while sales rose 15% to 52T vs consensus of 53T. Samsung doesn't provide a break-down by unit, nor a net profit figure. - Thursday, January 24, 12:12 PM SanDisk (SNDK +4.1%) is an Apple supplier and issued light guidance on its earnings call ... yet shares have rallied to within $2 of their 52-week high. Why? Because the guidance - Q1 revenue of $1.225B-$1.3B ($1.37B consensus) and 2013 revenue of $5.3B-$5.6B ($6.01B consensus) - is accompanied by a forecast for just 30%-40% NAND flash industry bit growth, and lower bit growth from SanDisk. - Monday, January 7, 8:09 PM Samsung (SSNLF.PK) provides earnings guidance for Q4, saying it likely turned a profit of $8.3B with overall smartphone shipments for the quarter totaling around 63M units - around 500 every minute. NAND flash memory sales fell 4% Q/Q, as a 9% volume decline offset a 5% increase in ASPs. Gross margin was a mere 12%, up from FQ4's 11% but down from the year-ago period's 15%. mcclux: APPL made up the previous market consensus for iPhone sales in the first 3 days that the 4S was on sale, so I think the answer is no.
