Great analysis. I am long STKL for the reasons listed, and am long Bluefire Ethanol Fuels (BFRE) because of their patented process for turning biomass into ethanol. BFRE is pretty much a pure play on ethanol, but because of their patent, a good long term play, as eventually biomass rather than food stocks will be used to generate ethanol. The EROEI (Energy return on energy invested...net energy) for corn (as well as other crops) has been know for quite a while (see the Energy Bulletin for a much more complete analysis). Wow.... We've come a long way baby! It sure is funny going back and reading this article, knowing what we now know. Who would have guessed back then that cellulosic ethanol has become so big? Who would have guessed that there would be so many cellulosic ethanol companies and cellulosic ethanol stocks? It's hard to keep up with it all. I'm not sure what I would do if I didn't have websites like InvestInCellulosicEtha... to keep track of it all. Did you notice that the CFO and President of Verasun recently quit to work for Mascoma (a cellulosic ethanol company)? "They are considered the world leading experts in pretreatment, so why should I doubt them."I don't know - you tell me! Could it have something to do with economy of scale? ‘Cellulosic’ ethanol in general is more promising compared to others; nevertheless, the business model has to make dollars and sense (-does not reflect opinion of CrossProfit.com).
