- Tuesday, April 9, 1:41 PM First Solar (FSLR +23.8%) guides on its analyst day for 2013 revenue of $3.8B-$4B and EPS of $4-$4.50, far above a consensus of $3.15B and $3.46. Shares have spiked higher on the news, and were shortly halted due to volatility. Other solar names are also surging: SPWR +9.8%. TSL +8.7%. DQ +12.3%. STP +36.1%. LDK +15%. JKS +15.4%. WFR +7.5%. JASO +6.6%. (previous) Update (1:56): First Solar shares are now up 48.2%, and have been halted again. CNNMoney's Paul R. La Monica notes over 1/3 of the float is shorted. "Can you say squeeze?" 9 Comments [Tech, On the Move, Earnings, Breaking News, Top Stories]
- Friday, February 8, 10:46 AM Some solar stocks are off after SunPower (SPWR -6.9%) provided light top-line guidance to go with its Q4 beat. FSLR -2.4%. YGE -2%. STP -2%. TSL -1.9%. SunPower's EMEA sales fell 64% Y/Y in Q4, nearly offsetting solid growth in the Americas and Asia-Pac. However, gross margin rose 460 bps Q/Q to 18.6%. Continued margin improvement and an expected 10% drop in opex lead SunPower to predict on its earnings call it will see a "significant increase" in EPS this year. Comment! - Wednesday, August 1, 2012, 4:26 PM First Solar's Q2 beat and guidance hike is providing a lift to downtrodden peers. SPWR +3.4% AH. LDK +5.5%. YGE +4.9%. WFR +3.5%. JASO +5.6%. TSL +4.6%. STP +5% (previous). 1 Comment [Tech, Earnings, On the Move]
- Tuesday, June 26, 2012, 10:34 AM LDK Solar (LDK -8.4%) slides towards its all-time lows after badly missing Q1 estimates and issuing bleak guidance thanks to the solar industry's overcapacity and pricing issues. LDK expects Q2 revenue of $220M-$270M ($370.4M consensus), and 2012 revenue of $1.5B-$2B ($2.07B consensus). Moreover, the company has a history of being too optimistic with full-year forecasts. Other solar names trading lower: YGE -4.6%. STP -3.9%. SPWR -2.7%. (PR) Comment! [Tech, Earnings, On the Move]
- Wednesday, May 23, 2012, 12:10 PM Suntech Power (STP -4%) slides after posting a mixed Q1 this morning on a 53% slump in total revenue. Net profit swung to a loss on slumping sales and provisions for U.S. antidumping duties. Looking ahead however, the company sees a reversal in the decline in shipments, forecasting an increase by more than 20% in the current quarter. Comment! [Tech, Earnings, On the Move]
- Wednesday, May 23, 2012, 7:33 AM Suntech Power (STP): Q1 EPS of -$0.74 misses by $0.26. Revenue of $409.5M (-53.3% Y/Y) beats by $1.2M. (PR) Comment! [Earnings]
- Thursday, March 8, 2012, 1:48 PM Suntech Power (STP -1.4%) dips after reporting a mixed Q4, beating on revenue but missing on a per share basis. Earnings swung to a loss as the solar-panel maker reported higher operating expenses, softer revenue and higher foreign exchange losses. Comment! [Earnings, On the Move, Global & FX, Tech]
- Thursday, March 8, 2012, 6:51 AM Suntech Power (STP): Q4 EPS of -$0.76 misses by $0.45. Revenue of $629M (-33% Y/Y) beats by $76M. (PR) Comment! [Earnings, Tech]
- Wednesday, November 9, 2011, 8:28 AM Suntech Power (STP) drops 6.1% after preannouncing Q3 results. While the solar module maker says revenue was north of $800M (above a $780.7M consensus), and its gross margin for the quarter was ~13% (at the high end of prior guidance), it adds that it expects to incur a larger-than-expected forex loss for Q3, due to euro/dollar volatility. Comment! [Energy, Tech, On the Move, Earnings]
- Monday, October 3, 2011, 4:11 PM Solar stocks had an especially bad day, fueled in part by SunPower's (SPWRA -11.7%) announcement it will lower it 2011 guidance during its Nov. 3 earnings call. JASO -14.6%. HSOL -22%. STP -13.9%. FSLR -8.4%. LDK -13.3%. CSIQ -13.5%. TSL -8.6%. YGE -7.1%. 7 Comments [Energy, Tech, On the Move, Earnings]
