Thursday, March 21, 7:42 AM In an attempt to simplify its structure, Energy Transfer Partners (ETP) agrees to acquire from Energy Transfer Equity (ETE) its interest in ETP Holdco for $1.4B in cash and $2.35B of newly issued ETP common units. Thursday, November 8, 2012, 2:18 PM New Hampshire reaches a $35M settlement with Shell (RDS.A, RDS.B) and Sunoco (SUN) of a lawsuit over claims the gasoline refiners and manufacturers used chemicals that contaminated groundwater. Tuesday, October 30, 2012, 2:17 PM Philadelphia Energy's (CG, SUN) 330K bbl/day oil refinery, the east coast's largest, says it is ramping up operations, joining Delta's (DAL) 185K bbl/day facility, which continued to run through the hurricane. The two refineries should help offset the shutdown of Phillips 66's (PSX) 238K bbl/day plant, which may be slow in going back online due to area flooding. Comment! [Energy]
Tuesday, October 30, 2012, 8:48 AM East coast refinery update (h/t Paul Ausick): Of the six large oil refineries in Sandy's path, the Phillips 66 (PSX) and Hess (HES) plants are closed, Philadelphia Energy's (CG, SUN) facility and two owned by PBF Energy are running at minimum levels, and the status of Delta's (DAL) refinery is unclear. Unlike Hurricane Katrina in 2005, crude production is not affected and refinery damage is not believed to be extensive. Comment! [Energy]
Monday, October 29, 2012, 3:32 AM Phillips 66 (PSX) yesterday began shutting its 238K bpd Bayway refinery in New Jersey in preparation for Hurricane Sandy, while Philadelphia Energy Solutions (CG, SUN), PBF Energy and Hess Corp (HES) have started to cut output at refineries in the storm's expected path. Phillips 66 has also temporarily shut oil terminals, while pipelines such as Colonial and Buckeye (BPL) have been preparing their contingency plans. Gasoline futures +1% at $2.73 a gallon. Comment! Friday, October 26, 2012, 9:38 AM If forecasts are accurate, Hurricane Sandy could hit land in the heart of the East Coast refining industry, potentially knocking both supply and demand for gasoline. The five East Coast refineries are located in the Philly area, Delaware and New Jersey, and can refine 1.2M bbl/day of gasoline or distillates; tanker traffic also could be affected. Tuesday, October 2, 2012, 12:52 PM Preliminary results of the elections made by Sunoco (SUN +1%) shareholders regarding the form of merger consideration to be received in connection with Energy Transfer's (ETP +1.1%) pending acquisition show the cash consideration option was oversubscribed, as holders of nearly 74% of the stock elected that choice. Monday, July 2, 2012, 8:23 AM Sunoco (SUN) and Carlyle Group (CG) reportedly reach agreement to keep SUN's 335K bbl/day Philadelphia refinery operational. The two companies have been in talks since April to keep the U.S. east coast's largest refinery open, and union members were expected to ratify a labor agreement, removing a hurdle to the deal; otherwise, the plant likely would be closed. Thursday, June 14, 2012, 12:17 PM Carlyle Group (CG) is closing in on a deal to purchase Sunoco's (SUN) 330K bbl/day oil refinery in Philadelphia, CNBC's Kate Kelly reports. The exclusivity deal SUN and Carlyle signed in April is set to expire this Friday if a deal can’t be reached. If Carlyle does buy SunPhilly, the plant "will likely come on the cheap," according to the report. Comment! [Energy, M&A]
