Sinovac Biotech (SVA) says that its current CFO, Mr. Danny Chung, has resigned for family reasons. Ms. Nan Wang has been appointed as his replacement, effective June 1. Ms. Wang oversaw SVA's business development, strategic management and investment. She was instrumental in leading the Company's successful public offering in early 2010.

Sinovac Biotech (SVA +3.9%) says a new drug application for its proprietary EV71 vaccine has been filed and accepted by the Beijing Drug Administration. SVA completed the Phase III clinical trials for the vaccine in March, and top-line data showed approximately a 95% efficacy rate against HFMD caused by enterovirus 71. The Administration plans to conduct an on-site inspection and will submit its opinion to China's Food and Drug Administration for further review and evaluation.

Notables from Sinovac's (SVA) financial results: 1) stripping out 2011 Panflu sales related to the government's stockpiling program, Q4 and FY12 sales rose 166.9% and 38.6% respectively; 2) success in Phase III clinicals for EV71 vaccine made 2012 a "transformative year" for the company; 3) growth in sales of core products (Healive, Bilive, Anflu) "very" pleasing. SVA also says Mexican regulators have approved the commercialization of the seasonal flu vaccine. Shares +1.2% premarket.

Biotechs rise in early trading as the death toll from the new avian flu strain jumps to 13. Sinovac (SVA) is preparing immunizations and can manufacture 30-40M doses annually, according to Bloomberg. BioCryst Pharmaceuticals (BCRX +17.4%) pops on news that six deaths in China have been linked to a new strain of avian flu. BCRX is developing peramivir, which has been shown in preclinical studies to help treat highly virulent strains of influenza - including the bird flu strain known as the H5N1 virus. Other drug stocks moving higher on the news: Pure Bioscience (PURE +15.6%), Hemispherx BioPharma (HEB +13.3%), Sinovac Biotech (SVA +7.8%), and Novavax (NVAX +1.1%).

Sinovac's (SVA) Enterovirus 71 (EV71) vaccine for hand, foot & mouth disease prevented the infection of infants aged 6-35 months in a Phase III trial, showing a 95.4% efficacy rate and meeting the primary endpoint of the study. (PR)

Sinovac Biotech (SVA +6.7%) is trading higher after saying it's been selected by the Beijing Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as one of four manufacturers to supply a seasonal influenza vaccine to Beijing.
