Company Description
AT&T, formerly known as SBC Communications Inc. (SBC), was formed as one of several regional holding companies created to hold AT&T Corp.’s (ATTC) local telephone companies. On January 1, 1984, we were spun-off from ATTC pursuant to an anti-trust consent decree, becoming an independent publicly... More

- Tuesday, November 8, 2011, 1:21 PM A recap of the earnings reports of pay-TV providers finds U.S. cable providers CMCSA, TWC, CHTR, and CVC lost a combined 379K video subscribers in Q3. However, telcos T and VZ added 307K video subs between them. Satellite was a mixed bag, with DTV's 327K U.S. subscriber gain offsetting DISH's 111K loss. Comment! [Consumer, Earnings]
- Monday, October 31, 2011, 8:26 AM Quick take on HTC's Q3: While Samsung's growth may be affecting HTC, the company's soft guidance is likely to boost fears of slowing Western smartphone demand - fears recently stoked by AAPL's iPhone shortfall, and T and VZ's soft smartphone sales. Qualcomm's (QCOM) FQ4 report, due tomorrow, could provide confirmation of a slowdown. Comment! [Tech, Earnings]
- Thursday, October 20, 2011, 8:06 AM Shares of AT&T (T) slip 2% premarket after missing EPS estimates by $0.07 on lower revenue from last year's comparable. Wireless data revenue grew 18% Y/Y as the company says it booked a 2.1M increase in total wireless subscribers. A soft area was iPhone sales: AT&T only activated 2.7M iPhones in Q3 - marking the lowest quarterly number in over a year and a half. 1 Comment [Earnings, On the Move]
- Thursday, October 20, 2011, 7:34 AM AT&T (T): Q3 EPS of $0.54 misses by $0.07. Revenue of $31.48B (-1% Y/Y) misses by $140M. Shares -1.6% premarket. (PR) Comment! [Breaking News, Earnings, On the Move, Tech]

- Tuesday, August 9, 2011, 11:11 AM Cablevision (CVC) drops 10% after reporting Q2 results that fell short of expectations. The Street might be particularly bothered by a 27K sequential decline in video subscribers, and a mere 5K gain in broadband subscribers - another indication of strong competition from VZ and T. Time Warner Cable (TWC) also fell after announcing Q2 results. (PR) Comment! [Earnings, On the Move]
- Thursday, August 4, 2011, 7:39 AM Deutsche Telekom's (DTEGY.PK) T-Mobile USA division, set to be acquired by AT&T (T), reports a Q/Q net loss of 50K subscribers during Q2, including a loss of 281K postpaid subs. This continues a long string of subscriber losses for the carrier, and could bolster arguments that T-Mobile can't effectively compete as an independent carrier. Comment! [Earnings]
- Tuesday, August 2, 2011, 8:55 AM More on MetroPCS (PCS): Q2 earnings missed the mark as margins declined on higher costs and a sharp slowdown in subscriber growth. New customer growth was the lowest in nearly 2 years as the pre-paid wireless provider tries to remain relevant in a market dominated by Verizon Wireless (VZ, VOD)and AT&T (T). Shares -16.5% premarket. Comment! [Earnings, On the Move]
- Tuesday, August 2, 2011, 7:48 AM Synchronoss Technologies (SNCR), a developer of subscriber management software for service providers, is up 6.7% premarket after reporting Q2 non-GAAP revenue and EPS of $55.4M (+49% Y/Y) and $0.21, beating a consensus of $54.6M and $0.20. AT&T (T) accounted for nearly 50% of Q2 revenue. (PR) Comment! [Tech, Earnings, On the Move]
- Thursday, July 28, 2011, 12:53 PM Time Warner Cable (TWC) drops 4.2% after releasing Q2 results. The market isn't pleased with the loss of 130k residential video subscribers, below analyst estimates, as competition from AT&T (T) and Verizon (VZ) takes its toll. Comcast (CMCSA -1.2%), Cablevision (CVC -0.8%), and Charter (CHTR -1.9%) are moving lower in sympathy. (PR) (transcript) Comment! [Consumer, Earnings, On the Move]
- Tuesday, July 26, 2011, 9:23 AM Ahead of Juniper's (JNPR) Q2 results today, there are concerns about whether the company can benefit further from Cisco's (CSCO) struggles. Investors are also concerned about customers waiting for upgrades to the company's innovative QFabric switching platform, and mixed capex messages from AT&T (T) and Verizon (VZ). Comment! [Tech, Earnings]
- Friday, July 22, 2011, 4:41 PM Bernstein's Craig Moffett sees cable providers such as Comcast (CMCSA), Time Warner Cable (TWC), and Cablevision (CVC) having a rough Q2, expecting them to collectively lose 322K subscribers. However, Moffett doesn't see "cord cutting" as a big culprit, given the cable losses are offset by 386K net additions for AT&T (T) and Verizon's (VZ) fiber-based services. Comment! [Earnings]
- Friday, July 22, 2011, 3:35 PM A review of Verizon (VZ) and AT&T's (T) Q2 results shows the former outpacing the latter: While Verizon added 2.2M total subscribers and 1.3M retail post-paid subs, AT&T added 1.1M and 331K, respectively. AT&T did beat Verizon in iPhone activations, though this was likely impacted by AT&T having a larger iPhone user base to draw upgrades from. 1 Comment [Earnings]
- Thursday, July 21, 2011, 1:38 PM As the FCC extends its review of the deal, AT&T (T +1.2%) says it's on track to close its purchase of T-Mobile USA in Q1 2012. With wireline revenues having fallen 3.2% Y/Y in Q2, and wireless growth starting to slip with the loss of iPhone exclusivity, AT&T has plenty of reasons to go want T-Mobile's 33M+ U.S. subscribers. Comment! [M&A, Earnings]
- Thursday, July 21, 2011, 7:52 AM More on AT&T's (T) Q2 results : Wireless revenue +9.5%. 3.6M iPhone activations with 24% new subscribers. Raises outlook for FY'11 capital expenditures to $20B from low-to-mid $19B. Shares -0.5% premarket. (PR) 1 Comment [Earnings, Tech, Consumer]
