The combination "provided a statistically significant improvement in the total Unified Parkinsons Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) score." (PR) Comment! [Healthcare]
- Monday, March 4, 8:48 AM Teva's (TEVA) Milprosa" treatment proved to be "an effective and safe option" for supplementing the progesterone hormone in women undergoing IVF treatment in a Phase III trial. The study is significant for Teva, "because fertility is a meaningful new area of specialization for the company and one in which a significant unmet need exists." Shares +0.2% in Tel Aviv. (PR) 1 Comment [Healthcare]
- Wednesday, February 20, 8:57 AM Teva (TEVA) will be able to launch a generic version of Gilead's (GILD) Viread treatment for HIV and chronic hepatitis B in December 2017 after the companies reached a settlement ahead of a trial that was due to begin today. Gilead sued Teva in 2008 and 2010 for infringing its patents after the latter applied to the FDA to manufacture the drugs. Teva said the patents were invalid. (PR) 1 Comment [Healthcare]
- Thursday, February 14, 3:10 PM Teva Pharmaceutical (TEVA +0.3%) says the FDA has approved its Abbreviated New Drug Application for the generic version of Shire's (SHPG) Adderall XR capsules for the treatment of ADD. Adderall XR had annual sales, including brand and generic sales, of approximately $2B in the U.S. last year. 5 Comments [Healthcare]
- Thursday, February 14, 4:59 AM Teva (TEVA) is facing a bill of up to $2.1B for selling generic versions of Pfizer's (PFE) heartburn drug Protonix before its U.S. patent exclusivity expired in 2011. Teva had already provisioned $670M in Q3 and said this week that the figure could go up by another $1.4B. A trial for Pfizer's claim for damages is due to start in June, while Teva also plans to appeal a jury verdict that upheld Protonix's patent. Comment! [Healthcare]
- Tuesday, February 12, 1:46 PM Shares of Bristol-Myers (BMY -0.7%) slide after a federal judge rules a U.S. patent for its hepatitis B treatment Baraclude is invalid, saying there's clear and convincing evidence that a key claim in the patent is invalid due to obviousness. The ruling opens the door to Teva Pharmaceutical (TEVA +0.4%) selling a competing generic copy. BMY says it's disappointed in the ruling and plans to appeal. Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Friday, February 8, 1:56 PM Teva Pharmaceutical (TEVA +2.3%) shrugs off a downgrade to Hold at Canaccord to trade higher today. The company has been creeping higher since posting a less-than-stellar Q4 earnings report yesterday morning, perhaps in part due to comments during its conference call that sales of its MS drug Copaxone rose by 14% to $1.1B. Read more here: Earnings Call Transcript. Comment! [On the Move, Healthcare, Earnings]
- Thursday, February 7, 9:03 AM More on Teva (TEVA -2.1%) Q4: net profit -37% to $320M as revenue falls 7.5%. U.S. sales -14% to $2.6B amid a sharp fall in Provigil (sleep disorder) due to generic competition. Copaxone global revenues +14% to $1.1B, but faces increasing competition. Expects to launch 23 generic drugs in 2013, as in 2012. Reiterates 2013 revenue forecast of $19.5-20.5B and adjusted EPS of $4.85-5.15. Declares dividend of 1.15 shekels (31 cents) a share, +15% from Q3. 2 Comments [Healthcare, Earnings, Dividends]

- Wednesday, January 9, 6:04 PM Teva (TEVA) files a petition with the FDA requesting the agency task an outside panel to evaluate the safety of Biogen's (BIIB) multiple sclerosis drug, BG-12, before approval due to concerns over potential risks to the kidney. The drug is a potential competitor to TEVA's Copaxone, and if the request is granted, the drug's launch could be delayed. 2 Comments [Healthcare]
- Friday, January 4, 5:57 AM Eli Lilly (LLY), which is suffering from a massive patent cliff and faces another one in 2017, could keep marketing exclusivity for its blockbuster Alimta lung cancer drug until 2022 rather than 2016 if it wins a case over a "method-of-use" patent on the way the multibillion dollar selling treatment is administered. Such IP is usually not upheld, although some experts believe that the Alimta case is different. Generic firms such as Teva (TEVA) argue otherwise. 3 Comments [Healthcare, Top Stories]
- Thursday, January 3, 9:31 AM Bayer HealthCare completes the acquisition of Teva's (TEVA +0.1%) U.S.-based animal health business after receiving the necessary regulatory approvals. Teva will receive up to $145M following the achievement of manufacturing and sales targets. The sale is no doubt part of the Israeli company's restructuring. Comment! [Healthcare]
