- Wednesday, May 8, 9:11 AM Alexza Pharmaceuticals (ALXA) comes off trading halt, now up 52% premarket following the license deal with Teva (TEVA +0.3% premarket). The conference call discussing the matter is underway. 3 Comments [Breaking News, Healthcare, On the Move]
- Monday, May 6, 1:36 PM Merck (MRK -1.3%) gets no love today from the FDA's approval of Liptruxet late Friday, as the stock is likely dragged down with the rest of the big pharma names on the back of a CNBC report that criticizes their earnings so far. The article points to the fact that pharmaceutical companies have seen a 4.7% contraction in earnings, and a 3.2% drop in revenue this quarter. Why? Morningstar's Damien Cover says there are two primary reasons: FX impact, especially from the yen, and intensified generic competition from patent losses. Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Monday, April 29, 10:28 AM Biogen Idec (BIIB +4.9%) gains this morning after giving an update on Tecfidera prescription performance. According to data, the drug has already garnered nearly 8% of the multiple sclerosis market through the week ended April 19, with prescriptions up 120% over the prior week. By comparison, Novartis' (NVS) Gilenya saw a market share drop to 6%. RBC sees performance on track to meet quarterly sales expectations. Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Friday, April 12, 12:22 PM Generic giant Teva Pharmaceuticals (TEVA -2%) slides today after CNBC's Jim Cramer recommended selling the stock earlier, as the company appears to be underperforming its peers. Cramer also warned that the looming patent expiry for its MS treatment Copaxone, which accounts for 20% of TEVA's sales and is set to expire in 2015, makes a ripe target for other generic manufacturers. 5 Comments [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Friday, April 5, 8:01 AM Antares Pharma (ATRS) gets a Notice of Allowance from the U.S. Patent Trade Office regarding the company's patent application for the VIBEX QuickShot. ATRS said Thursday that the first shipment of the auto-injector devices will be on their way to Teva (TEVA) by the end of Q1. Shares +2% premarket. 1 Comment [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Thursday, April 4, 4:00 PM Synthetic Biologics (SYN +4.3%), which was trading lower on the session, jumps after saying a patent issued to the University of California "includes claims to the use of [the company's] drug candidate Trimesta in combination" with Copaxone, Teva's (TEVA -0.8%) annual $14B selling multiple sclerosis drug. 1 Comment [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Wednesday, March 27, 4:12 PM Shares of Teva (TEVA -1.2%) close lower today on the back of Biogen's (BIIB +3%) earlier announcement of FDA approval for its MS capsule Tecfidera. Earlier in the week, TEVA had announced its own successful results from Phase III testing for its Multiple Sclerosis drug Laquinimod. Comment! [Healthcare, Global & FX, On the Move]
- Tuesday, February 12, 1:46 PM Shares of Bristol-Myers (BMY -0.7%) slide after a federal judge rules a U.S. patent for its hepatitis B treatment Baraclude is invalid, saying there's clear and convincing evidence that a key claim in the patent is invalid due to obviousness. The ruling opens the door to Teva Pharmaceutical (TEVA +0.4%) selling a competing generic copy. BMY says it's disappointed in the ruling and plans to appeal. Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Friday, February 8, 1:56 PM Teva Pharmaceutical (TEVA +2.3%) shrugs off a downgrade to Hold at Canaccord to trade higher today. The company has been creeping higher since posting a less-than-stellar Q4 earnings report yesterday morning, perhaps in part due to comments during its conference call that sales of its MS drug Copaxone rose by 14% to $1.1B. Read more here: Earnings Call Transcript. Comment! [On the Move, Healthcare, Earnings]
- Tuesday, December 4, 2012, 8:24 AM Galena (GALE) soars 17.2% after signing a deal with Teva (TEVA) for the commercialization of its NeuVax breast cancer treatment in Israel. While financial terms weren't disclosed, Teva will make significant royalty payments to Galena on future sales. Israel will be the location of at least four sites for Phase 3 trials of NeuVax. Comment! [On the Move, Healthcare]
- Friday, November 30, 2012, 7:09 AM Teva Pharmaceutical (TEVA) forecasts 2013 EPS of $4.85-$5.15 against Street expectations for $5.63. Total revenue is expected at $19.5B-$20.5B. Shares -5.5% premarket. (PR) 2 Comments [Healthcare, On the Move, Breaking News]
- Wednesday, November 28, 2012, 12:53 PM Rexahn Pharmaceuticals (RNN +9%) trades higher after the company said that Teva Pharmaceutical (TEVA -0.6%) will provide an additional $750K in funding to the company. Pursuant to the terms of an earlier agreementl, TEVA will purchase RNN's common stock at 120% of its closing price on the last trading day preceding the closing. TEVA has also agreed to commit additional research funding for development of RX-3117, a potential treatment for solid tumors including colon, lung and pancreatic cancers, and will retain the right to file the Investigational New Drug application with the FDA. 2 Comments [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Tuesday, November 27, 2012, 3:00 PM Teva Pharmaceuticals (TEVA +0.9%) agrees to delay the introduction of generic versions of two Gilead (GILD -0.9%) HIV drugs, Truvada and Viread, until June 1 or until a judge rules on the patent fight between the two companies. GILD sued TEVA in 2008 and again in 2010, claiming its FDA applications to make HIV drugs infringed four of its patents. The complaints also listed the HIV drug Atripla, which wasn’t cited in today’s filing. Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Thursday, November 15, 2012, 8:28 AM Amarin (AMRN) +9% following a report that Teva (TEVA +0.7%) is leading the race to acquire the Irish biotech, which has a market cap of $1.6B, with AstraZeneca (AZN +0.4%) also in the hunt. Teva recently said it wasn't intending to make any major acquisitions, while it's also due to unveil a long-term overhaul in December. 3 Comments [Healthcare, On the Move, M&A]
- Wednesday, October 3, 2012, 3:35 PM The FDA has withdrawn approval of Impax (IPXL -1%) and Teva's (TEVA -0.5%) Budeprion XL 300 mg, saying it's reviewed new data that indicates it's not therapeutically equivalent to Wellbutrin XL 300 mg. Both companies have stopped shipping the product and are issuing detailed information to their customers. The FDA added that its announcement does not affect the Impax/Teva Budeprion 150 mg product or generic Budeprion products made by other manufacturers. Comment! [Healthcare, Global & FX, On the Move]
- Thursday, September 6, 2012, 1:36 PM Perrigo (PRGO +1.6%) files an Abbreviated New Drug Application with the FDA for albuterol sulfate HFA inhalation aerosol, a generic version of Teva Pharmaceutical's (TEVA +1%) ProAir HFA. The filing involves contributions from both PRGO and Catalent Pharma Solutions, who partnered on the development. TEVA claims the application violates its patent on the drug, and yesterday it filed suit against both companies in U.S. District Court alleging patent infringement. 1 Comment [On the Move, Healthcare]
