As Timminco Shares Go Up, LDK Deal Raises Questions [view article]
greentech media had another name not long ago. they have bad recommendations. forget about them. ReplyAs Timminco Shares Go Up, LDK Deal Raises Questions [view article]
Worthless rag and author.. The financial media will dig their own grave just like all the major networks. The tittle of this article makes it look like the credibility of LDK is about to be questioned. It seems as if someone is being paid to try to keep a negative cloud around one of the fastest well funded growth companies out there. It is comical that the author takes a page out of asensio's short hype statements about fake contracts being announced.. It';s almost ebarrassing to see the desperate media publish them. These people are either being paid off, or they are so hard up for something to write they have to make it up. ReplyAs Timminco Shares Go Up, LDK Deal Raises Questions [view article]
Now I really need so rethink about Seeking Alpha's responsibility. seems all their comments are bullshit. worth nothing but less than a penny. where do they hire those uneducated writers? ReplyAs Timminco Shares Go Up, LDK Deal Raises Questions [view article]
You Ucilia Wang seems got nothing else to say to bring LDK down! Questioning the contract between two big companys?? I demand immediate apology to all the investors of LDK too ReplyAs Timminco Shares Go Up, LDK Deal Raises Questions [view article]
I need to ask. What is the connection with Greentechmedia and Asensio?. This sound very much like his "reasoning" and both LDK and Timminco has indeed been on his bashing list.
This finally moves GreentechMedia away from my unbiased list and into the "paid talking heads for naked shorters" list.
Ucilia Wang and her "sources" should be invistigated. Reply

You idiot. This is a new 5GW deal which LDK has inked with Q-cells.Why do seeking alpha hire such morons to write important articles? I demand immediate apology to all the investors of LDK. Reply

I am so disappointed with Greentechmedia for:1. Making a very positive news for LDK look like it is negative, look at the tilte of this article - need I say more?
2. Not having the facts straight, i.e., that this is related to a previously announced 5GW deal. No, the previous 6GW deal stands and there is a NEW MOU for a 5GW deal attached to this new contract. Reply
Global Warming Up to a Hydrogen Economy [view article]
Any high school chemistry student knows how to make H2 from H2O. It takes some familarity with thermodynamics and economics to appreciate the costs.A catalyst can only permit a reaction that is thermodynamically possible. No catalyst can make H2 from water without input of more energy than you get from making water from H2. The same applies to making carbon and oxygen from CO2. That energy has to come from somewhere. It would take a huge excess supply of nuclear, solar, wind, geothermal, hydro, or tidal power before one could consider a meaningful conversion of CO2 to C and O2 or of H2O to H2 and 1/2*O2.
How much consideration is being given to use of solar power and biomass (algea?) to use up CO2 and make O2? In Brazil they are making CO2 from forrests in order to make ethanol from sugar.
The idea of nuclear power to make electricity to make H2, pipe the H2 to homes, make electricity from H2 at the home, and use this electricity to heat the home seems to be, at the least, somewhat inefficient. As a matter of fact it seems like fuzzy thinking taken to a new extreme.

Hydrogen is the future! ReplyRaymond James Upgrades Timminco to 'Market Perform' [view article]
We live in exciting times. As for myself the Timminco appreciation, indirectly, through AMG has been my funds most profitable stocktrade ever. But one also should know when to get out, and i did. There are other less risky opportunities in this field.
The situation with respect to silicon today has many parallels to the introduction of mass steel production of the second half of the 19th century. And we all know who came out as the winner of the Bessemer process: Carl Wittgenstein.
What defines solar grade si as a subgroup of electr. grade si is how good the solar cell will be that is manufactured from it -in other words what kind of cell efficiency you can get with your process.
If the best you can do is n=13%: forget it. EVEN IF YOUR SILICON IS FOR FREE, ITS TOO EXPENSIVE! On the other hand, if you can get n=15%, you can ask about 40 Euro/kg.
n = 14% is completely uncertain.
This just shows what a close call this is. And it is difficult to increase efficiency relative to the best you can do. It is even more difficult to achieve manufacturing n on par with lab n. Such is as things now stand for Q-cells AG.
There are now competing purification processes. I think its better not to discuss them (yet). But wether you make or loose huge amounts of money by going into the silicon business depends on many, many variables, most of wich you dont know at all well.
The race is on.
History shows us what kind of winner we can expect to come out of it.

Timminco Silences Its Critics: Is It for Real? [view article]
However you put it, ill take the words of Q-cells chief Milner above some speculator's anyday. You can argue that Q-cells doesn't have all the info, though i think they have more than enough of it due to their close cooperation, but i would certainly argue that the people trying to bash on Timminco lately should atleast have even far less inside info in this company, and their arguments are far more speculative.I don't own shares in Timminco, i just follow this story because Q-cells came out to support them and i have a heavy interrest in Q-cells, wich is a superb company in the solar space and my favourite in the sector by far. Usually when Q-cells says something good of an other company, ill check it to see it move on it, Timminco did just that when Q-cells backed them. Criticism about timminco is easy to make and their can easily be ulterior motives for this to do, so i would take the criticism with a grain of salt.
The financials however are an other matter. Realisticly speaking, the market cap is high, and it would need Timminco to make a far higher revenue and certainly profit to justify this valuation. I won't argue on this regard, hence why i don't own shares. However i do not see much point to bash on their product, and i get the feeling that some may see a good short selling opportunity in this stock and hence would bash on the product to make certain of a fair down move. Since very few people translate German correctly these days, I'll write on Q cells, their plans, motivations later. Interesting stuff! Gotta trade. ReplyTimminco Silences Its Critics: Is It for Real? [view article]
The solar commodity market is complex (and getting more so by the day) and investors should be aware of this. There is also a management quality issue here. If they know the market and their own products, why have they not given a revenue guidance? What is their definition of solar grade si?
Solar grade costs > $200 $ these days. Yet Timminco sold for around $60???
Is it upgraded metallurgical grade of some 99% + purity to be blended, with virgin poly?
Timminco has been unprofitable.
Will it be profitable with solar grade si?
Timminco's recently available patent application reveals a crude high temp. oxidation process (they heat commodity si in a rotary oven powered by NATURAL GAS) that uses turbulance, stirring and large amounts of slag and omits significant prior art that itself is proven to be uneconomical.
So the key issue to investors is how many times the silicon must pass through the process to achieve the desired purity.
The company has not said what its energy costs are for each pass, how much slag is used or how much commodity grade si is needed to produce 1 kg of solar grade si.
NO ONE, BESIDES MANAGEMENT, CAN GIVE A GUIDANCE, NOR CAN ANYONE MAKE A REASONABLE ESTIMATE OF FUTURE EPS.
What photon consulting will say is how great the future of the silicon solar sector is, what a blessing upgraded metallurgical si is to the sector and that they are very happy to have Timminco on the solar train bla bla -all very true.
And Q cells AG?
On april 21 they acknowledged that Q cells is not involved with Timminco's disclosures on individual batch purities.
