- Wednesday, March 13, 8:48 AM Treasury prices tumble following the strong retail sales print, with the long bond falling half of a full point. It's the biggest beat on retail sales since December 2009, writes Bespoke. TLT -0.2%, TBT +0.3% premarket. 1 Comment
- Monday, March 11, 7:51 AM These stories always seem to hit every time bond yields move 20 basis points higher: Heavy hitter fixed-income managers are hedging against a big move higher in interest rates by selling bond futures, buying floating-rate debt, and shortening their portfolio durations. "We don't subscribe to the view that once the first starts, we'll be able to outrun everybody through the door," says one. TLT -3.5% the last 5 sessions. Comment! [U.S. Economy]

Friday, March 8, 5:21 PM
The week's ETF movers - Gainers: EPI +5.99%. FCG +5.25%. UNG +4.93%. TAN +4.45%. EWZ +4.44%.
ETF Losers: VXX -11.09%. TLT -3.49%. FXY -2.60%. EWY -1.36%. MUB -1.36%. 4 Comments - Friday, March 8, 9:50 AM "We like Treasurys here," says Bill Gross in the midst of big selloff in government paper. "0.91% on the 5-year produces nearly 2% return rolldown (assumes Fed stands pat until 2015)." TLT is the most popular Treasury ETF, but it's long-term paper. IEF, ITE, TYD, UST, TYO, IEI, and VGIT get you a little closer to the short-middle of the curve. 4 Comments [U.S. Economy, Quick Ideas]
- Friday, March 8, 8:45 AM SPY adds to gains following the better-than-expected NFP print, now +0.5%. The dollar pops, now +1.6% vs. the yen, +0.7% vs. the euro. UUP +0.6%. The long bond tumbles, falling a full point since the report's release. TLT -1.3%, TBT +2.9%. Homebuilders ETF: XHB +0.7%. Comment! [On the Move]
- Friday, March 8, 3:08 AM The Fed is considering abandoning its plan to eventually sell the trillions of dollars of bonds it's bought and just let them mature instead. The move would prevent the disruption of markets that might come with big sales, and it would prevent any losses if and when interest rates rise, not to mention any subsequent criticism from Capitol Hill. There might be some economic benefits too. 8 Comments [U.S. Economy]
- Wednesday, March 6, 7:31 AM Buying Treasurys is like "walking in front of a steamroller to pick up $1," Lee Cooperman tells CNBC, putting himself (along with Omaha's Oracle) on the other side of the trade from Jeff Gundlach who said last night he sees good value in the long bond yielding 3.13%. For about the 4th year running, U.S. Treasurys take the title of world's most hated asset class. Other than Gundlach, it's hard to find someone to say a nice word. 8 Comments [U.S. Economy]
- Monday, March 4, 12:58 PM Jeff Gundlach is a renewed bull on bonds, buying "more long-term Treasurys (TLT) in the last month than in the last four years." The 10-year yield popped north of 2% in February and is back down to 1.87% at the moment. He remains short the yen and long the Nikkei. As for Apple - now below what seemed to be his absurd $425 target just a few months ago - there's no word if he's covered that bet. 3 Comments [U.S. Economy]
- Friday, March 1, 9:58 AM iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF (TLT) announces monthly distribution of $0.254. 30-day SEC yield of 2.95%. For shareholders of record Mar. 05. Payable Mar. 07. Ex-div date Mar. 01. Comment! [Dividends]
- Wednesday, February 27, 8:08 AM Those believing in strong economic recovery may have interest in Ken Heebner's CGM Focus Fund. Heebner was short $300M in Treasurys (21% of fund) at year's end, up from $190M at the end of Q3, and $80M at the end of June. Most of the rest of the fund is divided between the banks and homebuilders. TLT -2.1%, XLF +5.9%, XHB +4.4%, S&P 500 +5.3% YTD. Comment! [Financials]
- Monday, February 25, 3:07 PM The great Treasury bond bear market of 2013 takes a break as the EU crisis makes the front pages again and sequestration maybe beginning Friday in the U.S. threatens a tad more fiscal tightening. The 10-year yield falls 7 bps to 1.89%. TLT +1.2%, now down just 2.7% YTD. 9 Comments [U.S. Economy]
- Thursday, February 21, 1:12 PM The long bond continues to climb, now up more than a full point since the FOMC minutes yesterday. When the Fed got hawkish in 1993 after a long period of ease, bond prices collapsed. Now they gain? It seems as good of a tell as any that the economy is not ready to handle tighter policy (see Hoisington). TLT +0.7%. 3 Comments [U.S. Economy]
- Thursday, February 21, 10:17 AM SPY -0.6%, QQQ -0.8% following numerous economic releases this morning showing any financial market froth from the Fed's QE isn't spilling over into the economy. Long-term Treasurys add to gains, the 10-year yielding 1.97% and TLT +0.7%, TBT -1.4%. 19 Comments
- Thursday, February 21, 8:45 AM S&P futures -0.1% following the 8:30 data - increasing jobless claims, an outsized bump in core CPI - not following Fed script. Helping futures bounce off session lows is a 2% gain in Wal-Mart following news its sales troubles may be tax refund related, not tax-hike related. The 10-year Treasury yield falls back below 2%. TLT +0.5% premarket. 5 Comments
- Wednesday, February 20, 2:19 PM Stocks remain lower following the more hawkish tone from the FOMC, with a benign loss in the Dow masking more substantial drops in the S&P (-0.5%) and the Nasdaq (-0.7%). Gold (GLD -2.2%) and silver (SLV -3%) leg down to new lows for the session. Bond prices fell on the release, but have now turned positive, TLT +0.1%. 3 Comments
- Tuesday, February 19, 2:30 PM The big story of the 2013 H2 might be the Fed slowing and then ending its QE purchases, says Deutsche's Joe LaVorgna. January FOMC minutes showed growing hawkishness, and since that meeting the February jobs report posted solid gains along with big upward revisions to previous months. 2 Comments [U.S. Economy]

OneLongTrade: when I went to grab lunch. Will avg down should we see some volatility post WWDC. TLT is more of a long term play, there is a bond bubble -
OneLongTrade: but it may or may not burst in the near future. The chart looks like there's major downside ahead though.

humahuaca: They'll just print. There is no shortage of buyers for treasuries right now, and the Chinese have to sell their stuff to someone. -
humahuaca: Of course, we all know it won't last 20 years. At some point the Chinese will not want any more paper.

MichaelJ8: you think it will bounce that fast? im concerned about oil prices in the short term -
Ricardo Espinosa: Me too, that´s why I got LVS instead of APA, they´re short-term oversold, but stronger trend is down, I´ll respect it until it changes.

Green Asparagus: @x-oil-field, "waterfall decline" is an idiomatic phrase if English is not your first language these are sometimes difficult to understand. -
Green Asparagus: It just means "steep drop". Imagine what a waterfall looks like, water goes over a cliff and drops straight down.
