Toshiba (TOSBF.PK) and Fujitsu (FJTSY.PK) are in advanced talks to combine their hard-disk drive businesses. Toshiba would hold a majority stake in the JV, which would have revenue of nearly ¥700B ($7.8B). In Tokyo, Toshiba +6.0%, Fujistu +5.3%.

Toshiba (TOSBF.PK) plans to buy outright 30% of the production capacity at its semiconductor JV with SanDisk (SNDK) to boost its output. The companies will split the remaining 70% equally. SanDisk expects to receive cash and cut equipment leasing obligations by about $1B.

SanDisk (SNDK -1.35%) traded lower by as much as 7.6% after Toshiba (TOSBF.PK) said it has no intention of competing with Samsung's $26/share offer. Recently it's up from lows on renewed takeover chatter.
