- Monday, October 29, 2012, 8:28 AM TransCanada (TRP) and Phoenix Energy Holdings form a JV to develop the Grand Rapids Pipeline system in Alberta, with each owning 50% of the proposed $3B project which will have the capacity to move up to 900K bbl/day of crude oil and 330K bbl/day of diluent. The system is expected to be in-service by early 2017. 1 Comment [Energy]
- Monday, October 22, 2012, 6:39 PM After a day's delay and a few days' outage before that, TransCanada (TRP) says it's restarted the Keystone oil pipeline, but will run it at reduced pressure for 24 hours as it continues testing. The company says it's not yet certain how the outage will affect shipments but it will be talking directly with customers. Nymex crude +0.5% to $89.10. Comment! [Commodities, Energy, Breaking News]
- Sunday, October 21, 2012, 6:35 PM TransCanada (TRP) delays the restart of the Keystone pipeline to Monday. The company had hoped to get the 590K-bpd oil line going again today after shutting down Wednesday to address a "small anomaly." Comment! [Commodities, Energy, Breaking News]
- Sunday, October 21, 2012, 3:40 AM TransCanada (TRP) hopes to restart the Keystone pipeline today after shutting it down on Wednesday because of a "small anomaly." On Friday, TransCanada said that no leaks had been detected on the 590K-barrel-a-day line, which transports oil from Canada to the U.S. Comment! [Energy]
- Thursday, October 18, 2012, 3:29 PM TransCanada (TRP -1.3%) will shut down its Keystone pipeline bringing oil from Canada to the U.S. for three days after an inspection found a "small anomaly" with the pipeline. The stoppage was taken as a preventative measure and wouldn't affect the oil shipments to customers "for now," and TRP says it is working with shippers to mitigate any interruptions in supply. 1 Comment [Energy]
- Friday, October 5, 2012, 10:57 AM Bakken oil prices in September traded at a premium to WTI for the first time in nearly a year, and analysts say the premium could continue for another year. Although it could hurt margins for Midwest refiners, pump prices could ease for drivers along the coasts. Credit goes to new rail lines and terminals built by TSO, EOG, STO and others, which are hauling the geographically isolated crude to refineries. 2 Comments [Energy]
- Thursday, October 4, 2012, 5:34 PM The proposed Alaska gas pipeline is unlikely to have a direct impact on natural gas prices in the lower 48 U.S. states which are driven mainly by expectations about shale gas supplies in places like Texas, the Gulf Coast states and Pennsylvania. Increasing supplies of liquefied nat gas on the global market could in theory put downward pressure on LNG shipped from other ports. 3 Comments [Energy]
- Thursday, October 4, 2012, 12:56 PM A consortium of energy companies says it is moving forward with a $45B project to build an 800-mile natural gas pipeline from Alaska's North Slope that will export liquefied natural gas to Asia. XOM, COP, BP and TRP agree on a plan to combine what were once two competing projects destined for the continental U.S. into one project aiming at overseas markets. 15 Comments [Energy]
- Tuesday, September 25, 2012, 11:20 AM Protestors in tree platforms as high as 80 feet are attempting to block work on the southern portion of TransCanada's (TRP) Keystone pipeline in Texas. Protesters have not yet disrupted any work, but they're in the planned route of crews clearing foliage and trees for the pipeline. 7 Comments [Energy]
- Tuesday, September 18, 2012, 10:15 AM One of the last hurdles for TransCanada’s (TRP) planned Keystone pipeline: Native American opposition. The question is whether gaining tribal support is a courtesy, as the company puts it, or a legal obligation. Some Native Americans and their lawyers insist that there are legal obligations under 19th-century treaties that affirmed sovereign status of Native American tribes. 4 Comments [Energy]
- Wednesday, September 5, 2012, 12:47 PM TransCanada (TRP -0.9%) submits a new route for the Keystone pipeline project that will avoid sensitive ecological areas in Nebraska. TRP says it has been working with Nebraska officials to come up with a new route and hopes to have U.S. State Department approval for the northern section early next year. 1 Comment [Energy]
- Monday, August 27, 2012, 9:51 AM Canadian security agencies have warned that energy companies such as Imperial Oil (IMO) and TransCanada (TRP) their computers may be attacked by the Anonymous hacker group because of the industry’s work developing Alberta’s oil sands, Bloomberg reports, citing government documents. Comment! [Energy]
- Thursday, August 23, 2012, 8:59 AM A judge yesterday ruled in favor of TransCanada (TRP) in a decision upholding the company’s right of eminent domain, rejecting a Texas landowner's claim that TRP must negotiate right-of-way with each landowner along the route of the proposed pipeline. TRP has received regulatory approval to build a 485-mile portion of the Keystone XL pipeline between Cushing, Okla., and Port Arthur, Tex. 2 Comments [Energy]
- Friday, August 17, 2012, 10:57 AM Some potentially nasty roadblocks could force Canadian oil sands producers to slash millions of barrels per day from current targets, CIBC's Andrew Potter says: “When plotted against planned pipeline capacity, it becomes abundantly clear that not all company planned oil sands projects can proceed... No company voluntarily gives up the quest for growth [but] some will have to." 5 Comments [Energy]
- Wednesday, August 1, 2012, 9:49 AM TransCanada (TRP +0.3%) is selected to design, build, own and operate the Northern Courier Pipeline project that will ship bitumen between two sites in Alberta. The 90 km pipeline, with an estimated capital cost of $660M, is jointly owned by Suncor Energy (SU), Total (TOT) and Teck Resources (TCK). Comment! [Energy]

Cherry Picker: Unfortunately almost all of these jobs disappear once the pipeline is completed. That's why pipelines are so profitable--minimal payroll. -
