- Wednesday, May 22, 5:46 PM On the repayment of its government loan, Tesla (TSLA) takes the opportunity in its press release to lob a few jibes at its competitors stating: "Following this payment, Tesla will be the only American car company to have fully repaid the government." Both General Motors (GM) and Chrysler still have outstanding balances remaining with the U.S. Treasury. 14 Comments [Consumer]
- Wednesday, May 22, 4:58 PM Tesla (TSLA), as expected, has paid off the entire loan awarded by the U.S. Department of Energy in 2010. The amount left on the loan had been $451.8M. TSLA funded the payment from a $1B stock and convertible senior note offering completed last week. 16 Comments [Consumer]
- Wednesday, May 22, 10:22 AM Tesla Motors (TSLA +2.5%) could earn $188M this year by selling zero emission credits this year, according to Morgan Stanley. Though CEO Elon Musk says the company doesn't rely on the credits when setting profit targets, the stockpiled credits are a nice little insurance policy that can be used in the future if large automakers start to fall short on emission standards in stricter states. 9 Comments [Consumer]
- Monday, May 20, 6:06 PM With its stock offering complete, Tesla (TSLA) will likely pay back its DOE loan on Wednesday, tweets Elon Musk. He adds Tesla's supercharger network announcement (previous) will be pushed back to next week as a result. Shares -0.6% AH. 3 Comments [Consumer]
- Friday, May 17, 8:33 AM How things can change in a week. Tesla Motors (TSLA) CEO Elon Musk's response during a conference call (transcript) on a question over a capital increase was pretty definitive that the automaker had spent "no time" on the concept and a secondary offering would only be to ensure against an "unexpected supply interruption" or "risk event." To be fair, an exec being coy is nothing new and shares of Tesla were only in 3rd gear at the time - but the response is still intriguing. (h/t SA contributor George Kesarios) 12 Comments [Consumer]
- Friday, May 17, 6:43 AM Tesla Motors (TSLA) prices its offering of 3.393M shares of common stock at $92.24 per share. 11 Comments [Consumer]

Losers: NCT -53%. SNFCA -24%. AMD -10%. NQ -7%. CYCC -5%. Comment! [On the Move] - Thursday, May 16, 8:17 AM Shares of Tesla Motors (TSLA) rip 12.9% higher premarket to $95.75 after the company files its mixed shelf and Elon Musk pours in some more capital. Reality check: Tesla now trades with a market cap just under 20% of Ford's valuation while selling only a fraction of the cars Ford sells indicating investors are betting either Tesla will become a "major" automaker or claim the highest margins in the industry. 23 Comments [Consumer]

After-hours top gainers, as of 5:30 p.m.: CSCO +8.5%. TSLA +5.1%. LMCA +4.9%. ABX +3.7%. GOLD +3.7%.

[On the Move] - Wednesday, May 15, 4:30 PM More on Tesla: The company announces it's offering 2.7M shares (current value of $244M) and $450M in convertible debt due 2018 in a public offering. Elon Musk plans to buy $100M worth of shares - $45M through the offering, $55M through a private placement. Tesla expects $830M in gross proceeds. TSLA now +6.8% AH. 51 Comments [Consumer, On the Move, Breaking News, Top Stories]
- Wednesday, May 15, 4:12 PM Tesla (TSLA) takes advantage of its huge run-up to file a mixed shelf. Shares -2.9% AH. (S-3) 25 Comments [Consumer, On the Move, Breaking News]
- Wednesday, May 15, 10:31 AM Tesla Motors (TSLA -0.4%) trades level with a tease from Elon Musk that an announcement is coming this week (Supercharger network next week) adding just a whiff of concern a secondary offering could be teed up. Also affecting sentiment, Deutsche Bank reiterates its Hold rating and raises its price target to $50, but considering the Tesla rally was missed by the investment firm and the new PT implies a 40% drop in share price, that may be one research note for File 13. 12 Comments [Consumer]
- Tuesday, May 14, 3:10 PM Tesla Motors (TSLA -3.5%) will make an announcement about its Supercharger Network next week instead of this week, according to Elon Musk. Shares of Tesla have peeled off a bit of their gaudy gains, but still stand +58% MTD and +151% YTD. 11 Comments [Consumer, On the Move]

Premarket gainers: PDII +33%. ECTY +20%. NSPH +18%. SNE +9%. WPX +8%. TTWO +6%. TSLA +6%. RENN +5%.
Losers: TRMD -15%. MOSY -13%. PT -11%. VELT -10%. SCTY -10%. TSL -6%. NBG -6%. 2 Comments [On the Move] - Tuesday, May 14, 7:35 AM Tesla Motors (TSLA) gains 6.2% in premarket trading to reach $93.10 as its dizzying post-earnings victory lap continues. Morgan Stanley is out with what is largely a cautionary note before crunching the numbers for the "extreme" bull case. The firm says if Tesla achieves a 20% operating margin on 200K units per year, then a $300-plus price target could be justified. 73 Comments [Consumer, On the Move]
- Monday, May 13, 8:42 PM For those still keeping score, Tesla (TSLA) added another 14.38% to last week's post-earnings bonanza , bringing the three-day total percentage change to +57%. Amusingly, the rally didn't let up AH either, as the stock tacked on an additional 2.51%, hitting $90 just before 8 p.m. 22 Comments [On the Move, Consumer]

Intangible Valuation
$TSLA's price is interesting -- the company is, apparently, a fourth the size of $GM and a sixth the size of $F. - View all 13 replies

Intangible Valuation: I am watching it closely with the *possibility* of shorting it. Bad news will crush the stock at some point I think...don't know when. -
Zeus2012: I would not short TSLA until there's indication of the Fed phasing out QE.

SharkETF: Get out of Tesla. Valuation should be around $60-$70 right now. Even analysts with enormous growth estimations agree on this. -
karmaprod: hmmm i'm waiting for elon's next announcement. pop then sell!

Intangible Valuation: $650 share price would make $TSLA worth *twice* what $GM is worth -- 2 times what the largest car manufacture in the world is worth.
