- Thursday, December 27, 2012, 10:09 AM Time Warner Cable (TWC) reportedly is playing hardball with low-rated networks in renewal negotiations for contracts ending Jan. 1, giving them take-it-or-leave-it offers of receiving no fees at all in return for continued distribution on its systems, according to the NY Post. Sources also say the cable operator is pressuring smaller channels not to provide their shows for free online. Comment! [Consumer]
- Friday, December 21, 2012, 6:28 PM Time Warner Cable (TWC), Charter (CHTR), and private Suddenlink Communications have made offers to acquire Cablevision's (CVC) Optimum West/Bresnan cable services unit, sources tell Bloomberg. Initial bids for Optimum West, which was acquired for $1.37B in 2010 and services 300K customers in Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, and Utah, were due at the end of last week. A deal reportedly won't be announced until January or February. (previous) Comment! [Consumer, M&A]
- Wednesday, December 19, 2012, 9:16 AM Time Warner Cable (TWC) continues to look to cut low-rated channels in order to save money to pay for expensive sports programming. Ovation was chopped yesterday, while IFC, We, and CurrentTV are all on the block. Comment! [Consumer]
- Thursday, December 13, 2012, 8:31 AM The NFL Network shows the clout live sports coverage still carries after striking lush deals with Time Warner Cable (TWC) and Cablevision (CVC). Despite being a one-trick pony (football), the network is now the third priciest sports network as it costs TV providers a whopping $1.29 per subscriber. The bigger issue: Though cable and satellite companies are drawing a line in the sand over carriage fees, with sports they have little choice but to capitulate with subscribers demanding access. Comment! [Consumer]
- Monday, December 10, 2012, 10:39 AM Time Warner Cable (TWC -0.5%) Glenn Britt says networks with low ratings will receive a lot of scrutiny from the company. The comments from the exec hit during a period of time when cable and satellite companies continue to fight to lower their content costs. If the bickering continues and more stalemates such as the AMC Networks-Dish Network dispute crop up, Netflix (NFLX -0.3%) could be an under-the-radar beneficiary with its original content gaining traction. Comment! [Consumer]
- Tuesday, December 4, 2012, 7:21 AM Time Warner Cable (TWC) warns media companies it will slash channels with ratings not high enough to justify hefty fees. The issue over carriage fees is getting ramped up as cable and satellite concerns edge toward a more selective process in negotiations over prices. After seeing programming costs rise at double the pace of cable prices, more standoffs could be in the works. Comment! [Consumer]
- Thursday, November 15, 2012, 6:48 AM Time Warner Cable (TWC) catches an upgrade from JPMorgan to Overweight. The ratings lift follows a presentation by the company yesterday (webcast) at an investor conference where it highlighted net subscriber additions have started off strong in Q4. Comment! [Consumer]
- Wednesday, November 7, 2012, 6:53 PM Cord-cutting isn't doing tremendous damage to the pay-TV industry, but it is leading penetration rates to fall a bit. U.S. pay-TV providers collectively shed 127K subs in Q3, per Bernstein's data, as a net loss of 499K cable subs offset a net gain of 372K telco/satellite subs. But that figure is below Q2's 410K decline, and still leaves the industry with a small net increase over the last 4 quarters. (Nielsen) Comment! [Tech, Consumer]
- Monday, November 5, 2012, 6:42 AM More on Time Warner Cable's (TWC) Q3: Video revenue up 3.7% to $2.72B, while High-speed data revenue rose 14.3% to $1.28B. The company added a net 27K business services subscribers and lost 125K residential services subscribers. (PR) Comment! [Consumer, Earnings]
- Monday, November 5, 2012, 6:02 AM Time Warner Cable (TWC): Q3 EPS of $1.41 misses by $0.02. Revenue of $5.36B (+9.2% Y/Y) in-line. (PR) Comment! [Earnings]

- Wednesday, October 31, 2012, 8:49 AM Time Warner Cable (TWC) hopes to sign a deal with Cox Cable and DirecTV to see its new sports channel added the firms' slate of programming. The clock is ticking because the network's main feature is broadcasts of Los Angeles Lakers basketball games and the season has started. Comment! [Consumer]
- Thursday, October 25, 2012, 10:27 AM Time Warner Cable (TWC) declares $0.56/share quarterly dividend, in line with previous. Forward yield 2.27%. For shareholders of record Nov 30. Payable Dec 17. Ex-div date Nov 28. (PR) Comment! [Dividends]
- Thursday, October 25, 2012, 9:32 AM Guggenheim lines up cable players Time Warner Cable (TWC +0.7%) and Charter Communications (CHTR -0.1%) with Buy ratings as analysts with the firm tag the pair as sector outperformers. Comment! [Consumer]
- Wednesday, October 17, 2012, 11:25 AM Lions Gate (LGF +2.2%) CEO Jon Feltheimer issues a warning to the cable industry that if it doesn't keep pace with consumer demand it may find itself a dying breed. Though it's a slippery slope, working with producers to offer just enough on-demand content options could keep revenue churning and subscriber levels stable. Walking the tightrope: TWC, CHTR, CVC, CMCSA. Comment! [Consumer]
