- Monday, September 17, 2012, 4:09 PM Time Warner Cable (TWC) says in a regulatory filing that it plans to sell its entire 7.8% stake in Clearwire (CLWR) and has notified other major Clearwire stakeholders, who have an option to buy part or all of the stake. 8 Comments
- Thursday, September 6, 2012, 2:36 AM Apple's (AAPL) TV and set-top ambitions remain bogged in a morass of pay-TV industry intransigence, Bloomberg reports. Points of disagreement include Apple's control of the user interface; its ability to sell directly to consumers rather than leasing hardware; and (of course) the striking of new content deals. However, Apple has reportedly compromised some on the content issue, and is said to be "furthest along" in its talks with Time Warner Cable (TWC). (Eddy Cue) (WSJ reports: I, II, III) 12 Comments [Tech]
- Thursday, August 23, 2012, 4:15 PM As expected, the FCC has approved Verizon Wireless' (VZ, VOD) spectrum purchase deals with Comcast (CMCSA), Time Warner Cable (TWC), and other cable providers, thereby removing the final hurdle to their clearing. The DOJ gave its approval last week, following concessions related to the companies' reseller deals. Verizon says it will now move forward with plans to sell blocks of 700 MHz. spectrum. (PR) Comment! [Tech]
- Friday, August 17, 2012, 7:29 AM Time Warner Cable (TWC) remains the only holdout from adding the NFL Network to its stable of channels after Cablevision (CVC) inked a deal to carry the network. Though it seems a sure-fire way to anger customers and spur defections, the company has been taking a hard line with its negotiations with NFL Media. Comment! [Consumer]
- Thursday, August 16, 2012, 1:27 PM The DOJ has officially cleared Verizon Wireless' (VZ, VOD) spectrum-purchase deals with Comcast (CMCSA), Time Warner Cable (TWC), and other cable providers. As was previously reported, the approval comes with the condition Verizon and the cable providers don't re-sell each other services in FiOS areas, along with other stipulations to guarantee competition. The FCC is now in favor of approving the deal. 3 Comments [Tech]
- Thursday, August 16, 2012, 3:39 AM Apple (AAPL) is in talks with Time Warner Cable (TWC) and other leading cable operators about building a set-top box that allows viewers to watch live broadcast TV and other content, the WSJ reports. That would be a major upgrade from Apple's existing product, which doesn't carry network TV, and represent a major breakthrough in the company's attempts to conquer the living room. Comment! [Tech, Consumer, Top Stories]
- Tuesday, August 14, 2012, 5:30 AM The FCC and DOJ are preparing to authorize Verizon Wireless' (VZ) $3.9B acquisition of airwaves from several cable companies, including Comcast (CMCSA) and Time Warner Cable (TWC), the WSJ reports. In return, the companies will limit the scope and length of agreements to sell each other's services in deals that had raised concerns that the companies wouldn't compete for Internet subscribers. 1 Comment [Tech, Consumer, M&A]
- Monday, August 13, 2012, 8:13 AM Level 3 Communications (LVLT) signs a multi-year agreement to expand Time Warner Cable's (TWC) national network, including providing additional core infrastructure services. The companies have also agreed to exchange IP traffic between their respective backbone networks. (PR) Comment! [Tech]
- Friday, August 10, 2012, 3:37 PM Expectations of widespread cord-cutting by cable TV customers appear overblown, but that doesn't mean it's a good time to invest in cable stocks, Barclays believes. Cablevision (CVC -0.6%) has bounced 44% since early June, and it probably doesn’t have much juice left, and its discount to Time Warner Cable TWC +0.3%) is no longer large enough to justify an investment. 1 Comment [Consumer, Tech, Quick Ideas]
- Thursday, August 9, 2012, 9:51 AM Cord-cutting might have picked up a bit in Q2, according to data industry. Though the net loss of 400K customers was affected partially by a seasonal trend of college students cutting their service, analysts dissecting the sector still see a slow downward trend as more streaming options proliferate. Cable/satellite/telco players: CMCSA, TWC, CHTR, CVC, DISH, DTV, T, VZ. Comment! [Consumer]
- Tuesday, August 7, 2012, 6:20 PM Time Warner Cable (TWC) is offering $1.25B worth of 4.5% notes due 2042. TWC says it could use the proceeds to repay debt, which suggests this is a refinancing move. The cable operator had $24B in net debt on its balance sheet as of June 30. (PR) Comment! [Consumer]
- Sunday, August 5, 2012, 5:35 AM Regulators wants to cap the length of time Verizon (VZ) and cable companies can withhold joint services from competitors as a condition for approving the cellular carrier's $3.6B acquisition of spectrum from Time Warner (TWC) and Comcast (CMCSA), Bloomberg reported yesterday. The deal includes joint marketing and development agreements. (previous) Comment! [Tech, Consumer]
- Thursday, August 2, 2012, 8:13 AM More on Time Warner Cable (TWC -0.1%) Q2: net profit +7.6% to $452M. Adds 59K residential high-speed Internet subs, 45K voice subs, but loses 169K video subs. Residential revenue +7.4% to $4.62B, boosted by 14% rise in broadband Internet. Business services +29% to $464M, advertising +18%. Comment! [Earnings, Tech, Consumer]
- Thursday, August 2, 2012, 6:15 AM Time Warner Cable (TWC): Q2 EPS of $1.48 beats by $0.09. Revenue of $5.40B (+9.3% Y/Y) beats by $20M. (PR) Comment! [Earnings]
