    Universal Forest Products (UFPI -6%) slides on a disappointing Q4 that missed estimates across the board late yesterday. Net losses widened as the wood-products and construction materials company was hit by higher expenses, masking improved sales across its segments. Gross margin narrowed to 9.4% from 11.2%, as input costs rose 14%.

    Universal Forest Products (UFPI -11.5%) takes a hit after a disappointing Q3 report late yesterday. Net profit fell 25% as the wood-products and construction materials company suffered higher input costs, plus a $2M one-time charge related to Canadian taxes on certain products imported from China.

    Universal Forest Products (UFPI +4.3%) jumps following an upgrade to Neutral from D.A. Davidson. The firm notes shares have fallen sharply in recent weeks even though the outlook for the housing market hasn't changed, and declares Universal to be "a solid company with good operations, a strong balance sheet and a profitable business model."

    It's only January 18, but is it possible the 2012 housing rebound play is already getting a bit crowded? The XHB +10.9%, TOL +14.3%, LEN +16.3%, HD +6.3% YTD. Even bigger winners are building materials firms, USG +42.5%, PATK +50% YTD. Arguing for an even bigger run is most of these stocks are higher off of very low bases.

    Universal Forest Products (UFPI) drops 8.3% AH after reporting Q3 revenue of $468.9M (-2% Y/Y) and EPS of $0.29, missing consensus by $4.9M and $0.08. The company blames the shortfall on weakness in the residential construction and retail building markets, and is suspending guidance for the "foreseeable future."

    Building products manufacturer Universal Forest Products (UFPI) is up 20.4% after reporting FQ2 EPS of $0.22, well ahead of the $0.15 consensus. The company also announced it had named VP Matthew J. Missad its new CEO, following ex-CEO Michael B. Glenn's June resignation.
