Sunday, November 4, 2012, 4:10 AMHurricane Sandy oil roundup: Hess's (HES) 70K bpd Port Reading refinery in New Jersey has had part of its power restored, although a full restart isn't expected for several days, Phillips 66's (PSX) refinery in the state was still closed as of late yesterday. Colonial Pipeline has recommenced deliveries of oil products to three terminals in Linden, New Jersey, with six more expected to open by tomorrow. The 16M bpd oil terminal in Bayonne, New Jersey has also partially re-opened.

WTI crude gives up its gains, now -0.4% to $103.17 following a stronger-than-expected build in inventories. Products saw unexpected drawdowns, but gasoline is still lower, UGA -1.2%.

The CME lowers margin requirements for crude and heating oil futures, effective after close of business on Monday. Initial margins for crude are bumped down to $7,560 from $8,100; heating oil to $7,155 from $7,830.

Oil marches higher, WTI crude taking out $98/barrel for the first time since mid-summer even as most of the rest of the commodity complex sells off. Ahead of winter, heating oil is a few ticks from its highest level since the start of May. USO +2.2%. Heating oil ETF: UHN +2.3%.

Federal workers were sent home four hours early, flights are grounded and trains are canceling service as the Atlantic seaboard braces for a blizzard that could dump two feet of snow on Washington, D.C. Despite a lighter natural gas draw this week, the cold could boost natgas futures (now +2% to $5.524); the U.S. Heating Oil Fund ETF (UHN -2.1%) has pared losses.
