A Tipping Point for Virtualization [view article]
Why no mention of IBM, the inventor of VM? IBM has the best VM platform for Linux consolidation under z/VM on the z Systems platform. It runs on the Integrated Platform for Linux (IFL) processors. ReplyA Tipping Point for Virtualization [view article]
I've used Vmware and Virtualbox on a desktop environment. While they may seem fungible, there are some differences, that include speed, operating systems and versions that are supported, and in the case of Vmware, a vast user support library of vmware appliances, which adds alot of value.I haven't used the enterprise (ie. not free) version of Vmware, but speed is a weak point of desktop virtualization, and you will always be chasing the product offering the best disk IO, network IO, and display IO.
And there's often subtle issues with the different vendors products. Often, they only support USB 1.0, or maybe the CDROM driver doesn't work.
One of my coworkers just setup SUSE 11.0 with HyperV, and he was not able to get the mouse driver to work. Microsoft has a relationship with Novell (SUSE), and it appears that SUSE 11.0 is the only version of Linux (/UNIX) they support at this time. Reply

The real problem will be getting anyone to pay for your virtualization software - seems like everything, from Sun's xVM to Microsoft's HyperV, will be free... where does that leave a company like VMWare? ReplyBoard and Executive Compensation in S&P 500 [view article]
when I read the insiders activities on the stocks that i own i always see large blocks of stocks being sold or option being exercised. As a stock holder i paid for my shares these insiders didn't there shares came from the stockholders. The only company i have that has honest management is brk.a/b ReplyBoard and Executive Compensation in S&P 500 [view article]
its all a self serving scam.the new word should be "suckerholder&quo... stockholder.the ceo's & bod's are just selfserving & nobody mentions the suckerholder in the boardroom. pay should only be by dividend fro shares bought by management & bod's & no options.that would straighten things out real quick.utopia? ReplyBoard and Executive Compensation in S&P 500 [view article]
Jackooo...you are exactly correct. The companies send out proxies, etc., as a "feel good" exercise, not something that will result in any change of directors, management, etc. The mutual funds are not doing their jobs when they simply go along to get along with extreme compensation packages being set up by compensation committees. Any time a compny is losing money badly, but gives top executives major pay raises, something is wrong inside the management of the companies. ReplyBoard and Executive Compensation in S&P 500 [view article]
Years ago when it became so obvious to me that boards of directors were nothing more than good old boys clubs, rubber stamps for corporate executives and every bit as greedy, I began to look in the proxy for the identities of the Compensation Committee. Every proxy I have voted since I have withheld my vote for those committee members and have encouraged others to do the same. May never have an affect but at least its something I can do to express my dissatisfaction... ReplyBoard and Executive Compensation in S&P 500 [view article]
I have both T and CMCSA. I notice their executive teams are paid the most. That's a shame from these two losers. The SEC can make up lots more rules & I can vote against the board but unless the mutual fund companies vote their shares against the boards, we individual share holders might as well forget proxy voting.
I cannot understand why the funds don't take the reigns? It is their clients that are losing money. It is true that most of the clients are dumb and lazy regarding financial savy but gezz. You would think the funds would do something, no?? Reply
Board and Executive Compensation in S&P 500 [view article]
giving the people on the board hefty 'compensation' really amounts to a bribe by the top execs to keep the big exec $ coming, no matter what. Warren Buffet does it right, when it comes to this. good article. thank you. Reply31 S&P 500 Stocks with Negative 3 FY Net Income [view article]
No I mean average Reply31 S&P 500 Stocks with Negative 3 FY Net Income [view article]
I think you mean cumulative 3 year losses, not average.Reply

There are reasons to question the significance of the S&P500, at least in terms of what it actually represents. For an interesting view on the subject see article and comments at:www.clusterstock.com/2... Reply

Phil- good faith on both GOOG and AAPL. ReplyUnisys: Is a Proxy Fight Brewing? [view article]
I used to work for Sperry at the time iof the merger both companies Sperry and Burroughs were worth over 5bn, Sperry had huge cash reserves and a fantastic customer base in defens and large transactional systems. The then head of Burroughs Michael Blumenthal then proceeded to destroy two perfectly good companies with the result we see today. Unisys is neither fish nor fowl and is run by a bunch of incompetents who should be jailed for what they have done to investor value in the 22 years since the merger. GS has been short UIS since the stock hit the $8.50 range (went up to $9.50 and came all the way down). Just thought this was worth a mention and needs to be checked for current position.Saul Sterman
