- Thursday, April 18, 8:27 AM More on UnitedHealth (UNH -3.3%) Q1: net profit -14% to $1.19B, partly because of lower government payments. Medical costs +13% to $22.57B. Reiterates 2013 EPS forecast of $5.25-5.50 vs consensus of $5.51, but says that the impact of sequestration will affect the upper end. Cuts revenue outlook to $122B from a prior forecast of $123-124B and vs consensus of $123.76B, due to a major client switching its insurance to a self-funded approach. - Tuesday, April 2, 10:41 AM Goldman Sachs opts to remain selective on a few names in the managed care sector following yesterday's announcement by the CMS that Medicaid Advantage rates were going higher. It's reiterating a CL-Buy on UnitedHealth (UNH +7.6%), calling its valuation under 10X FY14 EPS attractive, as well a Buy on Health Net (HNT +3.6%) and WellCare (WCG +5.2%). It maintains Sell ratings on Humana (HUM +8.3%) and Universal American (UAM +9.9%) however, noting the majority of their earnings are tied to Medicaid Advantage with about half of those members in non-HMO plans." Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move, U.S. Economy]
- Monday, April 1, 6:12 PM The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, after originally calling for reducing Medicare Advantage payments in February, seem to have reversed course, now projecting that combined growth in Medicare Advantage rates and fee-for-service rates will be 3.3%. Though it's unclear precisely what that may mean for health insurers, the markets are taking it as a positive: HUM +9%, AET +2.3%, WCG +4.1%, UNH +4% AH. 3 Comments [Healthcare, On the Move]

Monday, April 1, 5:37 PM
After-hours top gainers, as of 5:15 p.m.: BGCP +43%. HUM +9%. NUAN +6%. AMSC +6%. UNH +4%.
After-hours top losers: NAT -6%. ATLS -3%. CECO -3%. SCVL -3%. IMN -2%. 1 Comment [On the Move] - Monday, April 1, 4:08 PM Health insurers surge into the close as the final notice on Medicare Advantage reimbursement is due today: Humana (HUM +8.6%), UnitedHealth (UNH +3.1%), Wellcare Healthplans (WCG +3.9%), Coventry Health (CVH +1%) Centene (CNC +1%) and Aetna (AET +2.5%). Comment! [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Tuesday, March 12, 1:47 PM UnitedHealth (UNH +1.3%) makes some cautious comments today at Barclay's Healthcare Conference regarding its participation in upcoming health-insurance exchanges. The new state-based marketplaces are supposed to open later this year under the health-overhaul law, which could translate into millions of new members worth billions in revenue for health insurers. But companies have generally been hesitant about their planned participation, opting to wait and see how well markets function first. "Our position on exchanges is that our entry will be measured," says UNH CFO David Wichmann. 1 Comment [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Tuesday, February 19, 9:39 AM It's not just Humana (-9.6%) suffering from prospective declines in reimbursement rates for Medicare Advantage plans in 2014, with UnitedHealth (UNH) -5.2%, Cigna (CI) -5.5%, Aetna (AET) -3.5% and Universal America (UAM) -8.95%. 7 Comments [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Thursday, January 3, 1:33 PM UnitedHealth (UNH -3.3%) slides on a downgrade to Hold at Deutsche Bank. Deutsche cites a lack of catalysts in the managed care sector, which is weighed down by higher underwriting risks, declining pricing trends and margin pressures. The firm cuts its price target for shares to $61 from $73. 2 Comments [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Wednesday, January 2, 3:27 PM Shares of Questcor (QCOR -2.6%) are on the move again after UnitedHealthcare (UNH -0.1%) announces in a network bulletin that, effective April 1, 2013, the insurer will require physicians to submit for prior authorization and approval of Acthar for its plan members. 6 Comments [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Wednesday, October 31, 2012, 11:25 AM WellCare Health Plans (WCG -13%) slides after its Q3 results missed on the bottom line this morning. Net profit fell 57% Y/Y on weak results from its Georgia and Kentucky Medicaid programs. The company also lowered its full-year earnings estimate on the weak Kentucky results, now expecting to earn between $4.90 and $5.05 per share. Separately, it also announced plans to acquire UnitedHealthCare Group's (UNH -0.4%) South Carolina Medicaid business for an undisclosed amount. 2 Comments [Healthcare, Earnings, On the Move]
- Friday, September 14, 2012, 8:42 AM UnitedHealth Group (UNH) +3% premarket on news it will replace Kraft in the DJIA. KFT -0.6% premarket. 2 Comments [On the Move, Breaking News, Top Stories]
- Tuesday, July 31, 2012, 2:04 PM Shares of Humana (HUM -13%) get slammed this morning, a day after the managed-care provider missed the mark on Q2 earnings and cut its profit outlook for the year. The dismal report is taking down more than one insurer that otherwise might have had an up day: Aetna (AET -1.9%), WellPoint (WLP -3.5%), UnitedHealth (UNH -3%). 3 Comments [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Wednesday, July 25, 2012, 11:36 AM Health insurers take a pummeling after Wellpoint's (WLP -12%) miserable Q2 report, even though some analysts say that the company has specific challenges. Citigroup's Carl McDonald reckons management could come under pressure. Still, HealthNet (HNT) -10%, UnitedHealth (UNH) -5.6%, Coventry (CVH) -4.9%, Humana (HUM) -3%, Cigna (CI) -3.9% and Aetna (AET) -4.9%. 1 Comment [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Friday, June 29, 2012, 3:23 PM Following a brief rebound at the open today, health insurance stocks resume their downward trajectory on the back of yesterday's Supreme Court decision: UnitedHealth (UNH -2.5%), WellPoint (WLP -3.2%), Aetna (AET -3%), HealthNet (HNT -0.7%) and Coventry Health Care (CVH -2%). 16 Comments [Healthcare, On the Move]
- Thursday, June 28, 2012, 11:09 AM Wells Fargo is saying to buy managed care names on the back of the Supreme Court decision. The firm notes that the decision removes a big overhang in the sector and is actually a positive over the long term. Top names it recommends buying: Aetna (AET -4%), Coventry Health (CVH -3.6%), Humana (HUM -3.2%) and UnitedHealth (UNH -3.6%). 1 Comment [Healthcare, Quick Ideas, On the Move]
- Thursday, June 28, 2012, 10:22 AM Healthcare stocks that are down following the Supreme Court opinion on the Healthcare Act include: CVH -1.3%, UNH -1.1%, AET -1.2%, CI -1.5%, CHSI -0.5%, WLP -2.5%, HUM -2%. Those that are up include: UAM +0.8%, MOH +6.3%, HNT +3.1%. 1 Comment [Breaking News, Top Stories, Healthcare, On the Move]
