However, the firm has a favorable outlook for uranium due to relatively predictable demand and limited supply growth. Tuesday, May 28, 10:39 AM A sale of European uranium enrichment powerhouse Urenco could occur late this year or early next, DealBook reports, but there are few companies with the deep pockets needed for the ~€10B price tag. Monday, March 11, 3:15 PM Cameco (CCJ +2.2%) has hired Goldman Sachs and another unnamed bank to advise it on exploring a potential bid for a stake in U.K.-based uranium enrichment specialist Urenco, Sky News reports. The U.K. government, co-owners of Urenco with the German and Dutch governments, had expressed interest in a possible sale of its interest, which could be worth as much as £2B. Comment! Wednesday, February 13, 7:35 AM Japanese utilities are stepping up uranium imports on hope the government will allow more shuttered nuclear reactors to restart, according to Cameco (CCJ) CEO Tim Gitzel. It's not wishful thinking, says Raymond James' David Sadowski. Big consumers, the government, utilities, and even townspeople close to the plants are clamoring to get moving. That handicap was laid bare yet again as Duke Energy (DUK) decided to retire its Crystal River plant in Florida, and Centrica pulled out of a new U.K. project. Wednesday, January 16, 2:49 PM Among the Fission Energy assets being acquired by Denison (DNN +3.4%) is a 60% stake in the Waterbury Lake uranium project, part of a deposit attached to Rio Tinto’s (RIO -1.9%) Roughrider deposit - which Cantor Fitzgerald says "ties a neat bow on top of Denison for a potential takeout offer" from RIO. Wednesday, December 12, 2012, 5:41 PM The uranium business is still stuck in a rut more than 21 months after Fukushima, and there's little sign of a turnaround in 2013 as Japan's plans remain up in the air. Optimists point to long-term demand - 62 reactors under construction worldwide - and weak pricing and cost pressures that have ground many projects to a halt.
