- Thursday, May 9, 11:21 AM United Technologies (UTX +0.8%) flirts with a new 52-week high today after its Sikorsky Aircraft subsidiary delivered the first of two VIP S-92 helicopters to the Turkish National Police for service to the Turkish Prime Ministry. Both aircraft are expected to be delivered this year. Comment! [On the Move, Global & FX]

- Tuesday, April 23, 10:41 AM United Technologies (UTX -0.3%) slips a bit today after putting up a mixed Q1, beating on a per share basis but coming up shy on its top line, despite a 16% Y/Y increase in total sales. Net profit also soared, as revenue from its newly formed UTC Aerospace Systems, which includes recently acquired Goodrich and Hamilton Sundstrand, surged to $3.26B from $1.24B, while its Pratt & Whitney unit saw an 11% increase in sales. The company also reaffirms FY13 guidance. Comment! [Earnings]

- Monday, April 15, 3:23 PM 2012 marked the first annual contraction in global defense spending in a decade and a half according to Bloomberg, quoting the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute. Between austerity in Europe and the scaling back of defense expenditures associated with Afghanistan in the U.S., global military expenditures were down 0.5% last year in real terms. China meanwhile, increased its outlays by nearly 8% and may overtake the U.S. in less than 10 years. Comment!
- Monday, April 8, 12:15 PM United Technologies (UTX +0.2%) may be poised for double-digit gains over the next year to 18 months, according to Barron's, as its purchase of Goodrich pays off. The acquisition is expected to add $0.55 a share to FY13 earnings, and has helped to lift the conglomerate to an even more dominant perch in the airline business. UTX can now supply two-thirds of the contents of a commercial airliner, almost twice that of rivals General Electric (GE -0.4%) and Honeywell (HON +0.1%). Comment! [Earnings, Consumer]
- Friday, March 15, 7:34 PM If history is a guide, the markets may be due for a pullback, according to S&P Capital's Sam Stovall. Since World War II, Stovall says the median advance once the S&P hits its previous high after recovering from a bear market has been just 3%. But despite the ominous warning, there still may be some places to ride it all out. JPMorgan's chief U.S. equities strategist Tom Lee recently came up with 15 stocks that outperformed the S&P 500 in eight of the last 11 pullbacks since 2009: CAG, IBM, DIS, GPC, MMM, FISV, PAYX, PPG, SYY, SIAL, UNP, UTX, PX, L, and XRAY. 42 Comments [U.S. Economy]
- Friday, March 15, 11:19 AM J.P. Morgan's Thomas Lee sees two distinctive style attributes that will help stocks outperform after the recent run-up: high free cash flow yields and - surprisingly - low dividend yields. Lee's screen produces 15 stocks investors can buy now: CAG, IBM, GPC, MMM, PAYX, UTX, SYY, PPG, PX, UNP, FISV, SIAL, XRAY, L, DIS. 6 Comments [Quick Ideas]
- Thursday, March 14, 12:36 PM United Technologies (UTX +0.3%) reaffirms its outlook for 2013, expecting an EPS of between $5.85 to $6.15, on sales of $64B to $65B. The company also continues to anticipate cash flow from operations less capital expenditures will be equal to or in excess of net income attributable to common shareowners. Comment! [Earnings]
- Thursday, March 14, 9:06 AM After a period of fairly miserable headlines, the F-35 gets a boost from Singapore, which is in the "final stages of evaluating" the Lockheed Martin (LMT) fighter jet and is expected to soon submit a "letter of request." The process should bring orders for several dozen jets, something that would also be a boon for Pratt & Whitney (UTX), the provider of the F-35's engines. 1 Comment
- Tuesday, March 12, 3:42 PM United Technologies (UTX +0.2%) gets some positive press from UBS today, who reiterated its Buy rating and raises its price target from $91 to $105. The firm says is the stock poised for an upside move, citing easing order comps, increased earnings visibility and solid free cash flow. 1 Comment [Global & FX]
- Tuesday, March 5, 5:37 AM General Dynamics (GD) shipbuilding unit NASSCO has warned over 1,000 workers of indefinite layoffs that may take effect in late April due to the uncertainty caused by the automatic spending cuts that kicked in on Friday. The warning follows one by BAE Systems last week. The reductions will chop the Pentagon's budget by 7.8%, with all major defense contractors set to be hit. 2 Comments [Top Stories, U.S. Economy]
- Monday, March 4, 3:02 AM Pratt & Whitney has disclosed that it discovered a scheme in 2011 at fellow United Technologies (UTX) subsidiary Carmel Forge to allegedly falsify metallurgical test results in certain aircraft engine forgings to make it appear as if they met Pratt's extra-high internal standards even if they didn't. While the scheme affected tens of thousands of parts, United Tech and FAA investigations found that the components aren't a safety risk. 2 Comments
- Wednesday, February 27, 9:34 AM Christopher Bogdan, the Pentagon's program chief for the F-35, slams Lockheed Martin (LMT) and Pratt & Whitney (UTX) for trying to "squeeze every nickel" out of the government. Bogdan wants the companies to "take on some of the risk...invest in cost reductions...do the things that will build a better relationship," he says. "I'm not getting all that love yet." You might remember that in the summer, Bogdan described the government's relationship with LMT as the worst he'd ever seen. 7 Comments
