- Wednesday, June 19, 9:44 AM Paris Air Show: United Tech (UTX) unit Pratt & Whitney wins order for 200 engines from International Lease Finance to power Embraer's E-Jets E2 planes, for 100 engines from Norwegian Air Shuttle for Airbus A320 aircraft, and for 60 engines from Air Lease Corp for A320/A321 jets. - Tuesday, June 18, 2:05 PM United Technologies (UTX +1.1%) has been ordered to pay $473M, plus interest, for overcharging the US Air Force for jet engines. The ruling is the result of a lawsuit filed by the DoJ in 1999 seeking reimbursement for inflated costs by UTX unit Pratt & Whitney under the False Claims Act. Since the judgement includes interest charges, hundreds of millions in dollars could be added to the $473M price tag once it's all tallied, as the overcharges go all the way back to 1986. 1 Comment [Consumer]
- Tuesday, June 18, 8:55 AM Paris Air Show: Pratt & Whitney is having a good week, with LATAM Airlines choosing the company's geared turbofan engines to power 42 Airbus A320 aircraft in a deal worth $1.4B (PR). The booking adds to orders for 730 engines that P&W will receive for its geared turbo fan engine after it was picked for Embraer's next-generation E-Jet. P&W has also received a booking to power 12 A320s from Aviation Capital Group (ACG) (PR). The United Tech (UTX) unit expects revenue to double to over $24B by 2020 from $12.2B in 2010. Comment!
- Tuesday, June 18, 4:23 AM Paris Air Show: While defense companies are being hit by sequestration at home, they are enjoying increasing demand abroad for fighter jets, missile defense systems and other weapons. Air force sales doubled to $22B over the past two years, while the likes of Raytheon (RTN) are overbooked with meetings in Paris this week.
