    Shares of United Technologies (UTX) slip 1.3% in premarket action after Argus Research takes its rating down a notch to Hold from Buy. Analysts with the firm cite "mixed" prospects for UTX in 2012 with higher commodity prices, steeper developments costs, and pension pressure all sitting as overhangs.

    General Electric (GE +2.3%) has easily outperformed its peers since announcing a dividend raise Dec. 9, and shares are posting another strong gain. Since Dec. 9, GE shares have climbed 5.9%, vs. a 1.5% drop for United Technologies (UTX) and a 3.3% fall for Siemens (SI). Against financial stocks, GE is also clearly ahead.

    JetBlue (JBLU +2.1%) picks Pratt & Whitney (UTX +0.4%) in a ~$1B order for 86 engines to equip 40 Airbus SAS A320neo jets the carrier ordered earlier this year, beating out GE and Safran (SAFRY.PK) joint venture CFM International. It's the first U.S. airline customer for the PurePower geared turbofan engine on the A320neo.

    Rockwell Collins CEO Clay Jones says the firm isn't for sale at the moment, but would have to do the "responsible fiduciary thing" if a high offer came in. Jones calls his firm currently undervalued, pointing to the hefty tab United Technologies (UTX) picked up when it nabbed Goodrich (GR).

    Dealogic tags Swisher Hygiene (SWSH) the most acquisitive U.S. public company, at 43 acquisitions so far this year with an announced deal value of $220M. Swisher may be a surprise, but the list of busy dealmakers includes some of the expected M&A suspects; following SWSH in the top eight: GOOG, INTC, GE, AJG, UTX, BRO, BX.

    In addition to its Lion Air order, Boeing (BA) is selling eight 777 jets to Singapore Airlines for $2.4B. Meanwhile, GE (GE) has received a $1.3B booking for 50 engines from Indonesia's Garuda Airlines, and Sikorsky (UTX) is selling 12 Blackhawk choppers to Brunei for $325M.

    How CEOs of the Dow 30 are ranked by their firms' performance under their stewardship: CSCO +958% under Chambers vs. Dow +215%; MCD +287% under Skinner vs. Dow +16%; UTX +164% under Chenevert vs. Dow -4%. Worst performers: AA -77% under Kleinfeld vs. Dow -6%; INTC -63% under Otinelli vs. Dow +17%; BAC -60% under Moynihan vs. Dow -16%.

    Despite continued strong corporate profits, WSJ detects an ominous impulse stirring: restructuring. Seeing a rockier economic road ahead, at least three major manufacturers - Danaher (DHR), Honeywell (HON) and United Technologies (UTX) - say they are setting aside money to fund moves to cut costs and streamline operations, which could include job cuts and factory closures.

    Airbus (EADSY.PK) backs the Rolls Royce-Pratt Whitney (UTX) joint venture to build turbofans for future mid-size aircraft, as CEO Tom Williams points to the deal as a competitive help for the A320. The loser in the deal looks to be General Electric (GE), with the new JV able to match its package deals.

    Shares of Rolls-Royce are up 6% in London trading after the company announces a new JV with the Pratt Whitney unit of United Technologies (UTX) to develop next generation engines for mid-size aircraft. The companies expect demand in the segment for new aircraft to move to as high as 20K over the next 20 years.
