    Shares of Rolls-Royce are up 6% in London trading after the company announces a new JV with the Pratt Whitney unit of United Technologies (UTX) to develop next generation engines for mid-size aircraft. The companies expect demand in the segment for new aircraft to move to as high as 20K over the next 20 years.

    Shares of Textron (TXT +1.9%) - already on a 22% run over the last month fueled by talk of a takeover by UTX  - could see another run higher if the latest rumor that General Electric (GE +3.2%) is interested in entering the fray gains credence.

    Harris (HRS), a supplier of radios and communication devices, names William Brown to succeed retiring Howard Lance as CEO. Brown comes from United Technologies (UTX), where he served as Senior VP for Corporate Strategy & Development, and as President of its Fire & Security division. (PR)

    United Technologies' (UTX) Otis Elevator unit says it will shift manufacturing jobs back into the U.S. from Mexico in a "reshoring" move. Higher costs overseas and innovation back home are also helping persuade other multinationals to return jobs to the U.S. economy, although it's only a "trickle" and not a "trend."

The firm cites a combination of factors for the upgrade, specifically its strategic acquisition of Goodrich (GR -0.3%) and greater potential earnings power.

    The credit spigot is flowing, at least for those companies at the top of the corporate food chain. UTX's CFO reports receiving unsolicited commitments for $100B in financing in the weekend following the news his company was interested in Goodrich (GR).

    United Technologies' (UTX) reported $16.4B cash offer for Goodrich (GR) is UTX's biggest deal in a decade and comes at $127.50/share, a 16% premium to today's closing price and 47% higher than last week when the deal started to leak. And it's a heavy move into commercial aviation, and to get bigger - the opposite of peers like Tyco (TYC), planning to split into three.

    RBC Capital's Robert Stallard says a Goodrich (GR -1.1%)-United Technologies (UTX +0.7%) merger is a win for investors on both sides of the deal. GR's aerospace product line could help boost UTX, still smarting from a miss on Boeing's (BA -1.7%) 737 upgrade. According to sources, the two firms are down to a $5 gap on the final purchase price.

    Chatter continues to grow that United Technologies (UTX) is in final negotiations for a blockbuster acquisition of aerospace firm Goodrich (GR). Sources say the deal, of undetermined size, could be closed in the next couple of days. Deal rumors have pushed Goodrich's shares up 33% over the last five days.

    Goodrich (GR) and United Technologies (UTX) are now in "final negotiations" of their blockbuster deal, according to the FT, as UTX brings in bankers to nail down as much as $15B in financing to close the deal. Sources peg the final sales price for Goodrich on the upper end of a $115-$125 range.

    Shares of Goodrich (GR) are up 19% premarket after reports continue to point to United Technologies (UTX) launching a takeover bid. A Jefferies analyst see the logic behind the move, saying "from a distribution channel basis, from a mentality basis, from a customer focus basis, it's all there."
