Short, hedged, or out are good options if you are a TRADER. If you are a long term investor who is dollar cost averaging, then this market turmoil is nothing but a series of buying opportunities. These portfolios are for the long haul.~X~ Reply

Wonder why none of these guys would consider any of the inverse funds, be they stock, bond, currency, commodity, etc.? When you are in a Bear market, you should be either short, hedged, or out. I assume most would agree that we are in a Bear market. Could it be over? Yes. Could it get better? Yes. Could it get worse? Yes. Could it get much much worse? Of Course. Suggestion regarding your book - when I saw your site, I saw the picture of your book at the top left. I clicked on it thinking it would take me to a link about the book - wrong - so I decided it wasn't a book. Only much later did I see a link for your book. People expect to be able to click on a picture of a book and get to the book. Let it work for you! ReplyYawning from the Market Sidelines, ETFs in Hand [view article]

I'm also wondering the same thing. What is the best approach to switching from a B&H method to a timing method? Reply

U.S. Smallcap in Demand [view article]
Puh-lease. If you must gamble in this treacherous market, then by all means small caps are the way to go. They have less to fall when they go to zero. But really, what is the purpose of this story? Watching inflows as you mentioned has been a disaster in the past year. Remember, we are in a credit crisis, small cap and small caps for a reason and when the funding really dries up over the next few years, short-to-zero plays using a dart board with small caps pinned up with be a much better trade than the one described here. Agree with the statemen investing is part art and part science. 3 members of my free website are u this year with over 95% success rates on more than 250 investments cumulative. Making the trend your friend is certainly a key concept as the author states. Key is knowing the right stocks at the right prices ReplyA Simple Momentum System for Beating the Market [view article]
Besides the 8-9% that stock markets make, one can only win what others loose. So who are the loosers when everybody outperformes by 10%?This is what EMH supporters tell hard cases.
Matt:
"Naturally all analysis is post"
You can develop a strategy with old data, say 1900 to 1980, and then validate the strategy with the data from 1980 until today. There are still some difficulties with that but you test the model on data which you didn't use to build the model, thats essential.
I can't believe I answered that seriously.
If you guys like, we can do an experiment, just say: "I'd like to".
cheers
