- Tuesday, May 14, 10:58 AM Millennial Media (MM +8.5%) is now up 12% over the last two days. Yesterday, Millennial announced the launch of a Japanese unit - the Japanese mobile content market hasn't been easy for foreign firms to crack. Millennial's gains come as mobile ad peer Velti (VELT -9.5%) dives after announcing another revenue miss and bleak guidance (as well as a COO change). On its earnings call, Velti stated days sales outstanding was still a whopping 309 days at the end of Q1, but promised full-year DSO would be under 100 days. The cash-strapped company expects free cash flow to be around -$8M to -$12M in Q2, before "a significant amount of cash flow" is produced in Q3. 1 Comment [Tech, On the Move, Earnings]
- Monday, May 13, 5:23 PM In tandem with its Q1 report, Velti (VELT) announces director and former Johnson & Johnson/Intuit exec Mari Baker is its new COO. Presumably this means former COO Chris Kaskavelis is out. Velti expects Q2 revenue of $42M-$45M, below a $55.2M consensus. No formal 2013 revenue guidance is given, though the company does state revenue "is expected to come in lower than original mid-point guidance of $267.5 million." Velti had $16.3M in cash at the end of Q1, down from $36.6M at the end of Q4; positive 2013 adjusted EBITDA is promised. Over 20% of the workforce has been cut (previous). VELT now -5% AH. (PR) 1 Comment [Tech, Earnings, On the Move]
- Monday, May 13, 4:53 PM Velti (VELT): Q1 EPS of -$0.27 beats by $0.07. Revenue of $41M misses by $1.14M. Shares +4% AH. (PR) Comment! [Earnings, Breaking News, Tech, On the Move]
- Monday, May 13, 12:10 AM Notable earnings after Monday’s close: HMIN, IOC, SCTY, TRQ, TTWO, VELT, WX Comment! [Earnings]
- Sunday, May 12, 5:35 PM Notable earnings after Monday’s close: HMIN, IOC, SCTY, TRQ, TTWO, VELT, WX Comment! [Earnings]
- Tuesday, March 12, 5:00 PM Following a halt, Velti (VELT) -25.1% AH in response to its Q4 miss. Q1 guidance is for revenue of $40M-$44M, well below a $62.7M consensus. 2013 guidance is for revenue of $255M-$280M, below a $339.5M consensus. 2013 free cash flow is pegged at $5M-$15M. Velti's decision to divest assets in areas with huge collection times is once more a culprit. The company is targeting 25%-35% annual growth from 2014-2016, but the Street is likely to be skeptical. Sales/marketing expenses +54% Y/Y in Q4, and R&D +69%, both well above rev. growth of 12%. (PR) 1 Comment [Tech, Earnings, On the Move]
- Tuesday, March 12, 4:35 PM Velti (VELT): Q4 EPS of $0.39 misses by $0.19. Revenue of $97.5M (+12% Y/Y) misses by $8.5M. (PR) Comment! [Earnings, Breaking News, Tech]
- Tuesday, March 12, 12:10 AM Notable earnings after Tuesday’s close: DOLE, GERN, HRZN, IRET, KTOS, PPHM, VELT Comment! [Earnings]
- Monday, March 11, 5:35 PM Notable earnings after Tuesday’s close: DOLE, GERN, HRZN, IRET, KTOS, PPHM, VELT 2 Comments [Earnings]
- Wednesday, February 20, 10:33 AM Millennial Media (MM -34.7%) is falling apart in response to its Q4 revenue miss and light guidance. On the earnings call, Millennial blamed the Q4 shortfall on a decision not to participate in certain low-end, performance-based, ad campaigns (often tied to app downloads), and the failure of some brand ad deals to materialize. No explanation is given for the guidance beyond seasonality. The comments are bound to raise concerns about competition. Ad prices rose 10.3% Q/Q, and Millennial has confirmed its purchase of ad targeting platform Metaresolver. P -3.8%. VELT -2.4%. Comment! [Tech, On the Move, Earnings]
- Thursday, November 15, 2012, 10:47 AM Velti (VELT -31.5%) has crumbled after missing Q3 EPS forecasts and stating it's abandoning markets where collection times have risen to stratospheric levels. During its earnings call, Velti noted Americas sales rose 81% Y/Y and U.K. sales (boosted by MIG) 221%, but the rest of Europe (includes some markets Velti is leaving) rose only 22%. Jefferies (Buy) likes the fact "management ripped off the band-aid via a divestiture," but thinks shares will be pressured near-term. Millennial Media (MM +5%) opened lower, but is now recouping some of yesterday's big losses. Comment! [Tech, On the Move, Earnings]
- Wednesday, November 14, 2012, 4:59 PM Velti (VELT) now -21.7% AH in response to its Q3 report. In addition to missing EPS estimates, the mobile ad agency said it will divest assets in regions with very high collection times (the PIIGS, North Africa, the Middle East) for $23.5M or more. Velti's collection times have long worried many investors. Thanks to the deal, Velti is hoping to see its DSO fall below 180 days (still high) by the end of 2013, compared with Q3's 242 days. It expects Q4 revenue from continuing ops of $97M-$113M, compared with a consensus for total revenue of $121.2M. CC underway (webcast). (slides) (PR) Comment! [Tech, Earnings, On the Move]
- Wednesday, November 14, 2012, 4:04 PM Velti (VELT): Q3 EPS of -$0.03 misses by $0.06. Revenue of $62.4M (+62% Y/Y) in-line. Shares -0.5% AH. (PR) 1 Comment [Earnings, Tech]
- Wednesday, November 14, 2012, 12:10 AM Notable earnings after Wednesday’s close: DRYS, IOC, LTD, NTAP, NTES, PETM, SB, SZYM, VELT, WSM Comment! [Earnings]
- Tuesday, November 13, 2012, 5:35 PM Notable earnings after Wednesday’s close: DRYS, IOC, LTD, NTAP, NTES, PETM, SB, SZYM, VELT, WSM Comment! [Earnings]
- Monday, November 5, 2012, 5:08 PM More on Millennial Media: Q4 guidance is for revenue of $61.5M-$63M, in-line with a $62M consensus. Adjusted EBITDA expected to total $3M-$3.5M, above Q3's $2.1M. Q3 gross margin was 40.9%, up 120 bps Q/Q and 160 bps Y/Y. Opex rose 109% Y/Y, thanks to major ramps in sales, R&D, and G&A spending. 380M monthly unique users reached, up from Q2's 350M. 38K+ apps supported by ad network, up from Q2's 35K+. MM +6.8% AH. CC underway (webcast). (PR) Comment! [Tech, Earnings]

James: did you feel $VELT met criteria for "improvement" you laid out? On DSOs, revs, geographies, I did NOT. Not disaster but poor-mediocre - View all 1 replies
-
James Sands: I agree Peter. I think most risks remain. Cash flow is priority number one right now.
