Vonage 'Welcomes' New Competitor, MagicJack [view article]
I bought magicJack even when reading some reviews a lot of costumers were not happy. I have comcast internet and my magicJack works great. Unlimited calling for $50 for the first year and $20 there after. I cut my long distant service from AT&T whih will save me $44 a month, just left the basic line just in case. I have been trying for almost a month and no complains. ReplyVonage 'Welcomes' New Competitor, MagicJack [view article]
HAVE BEEN TESTING THIS FOR SEVERAL WEEKS. THIS TRULY APPEARS TO BE THE VALUE IN LANDLINE TELECOM SERVICES WITH THE POTENTIAL TO UNDERCUT ALL OTHERS. CAVEATS BEING:1. IT HAS ZERO HUMAN INTERFACE CUSTOMER SERVICE, AND I MEAN ZERO.
2. APPARENTLY THERE IS NO ABILITY TO KEEP YOUR EXISTING TELEPHONE NUMBER
3. DEPENDING UPON WHERE YOU LIVE YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE TO GET A TELEPHONE NUMBER WITH A LOCAL AREA CODE.
OTHERWISE, IT MAKES AND RECEIVES CLEAR TELEPHONE CALLS, AND PROVIDES AT NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE VOICE MAIL AND ALL OTHER CALLING BELLS AND WHISTLES OTHERS CHARGE EXTRA FOR. I LIKE VONAGE BUT COMPARING MJ @ $20/ YR. TO VON @ $250/ YR. THERE JUST AREN'T ENOUGH DOWNSIDES TO MJ TO NOT CHOOSE IT. Reply
Comcast: We Won't Block VoIP Traffic. (Not That We Ever Have) [view article]
I had Teleblend VOIP work perfectly with Cox cable until I had to move. When I set up my broadband Internet with Comcast in Virginia, everything worked perfectly but for my VOIP telephone adapter. I had the exact same configuration as I had previously with Cox, but VOIP no longer worked. Teleblend tech support could not help. Apparently Teleblend doesn't have a "network management agreement" in place yet with Comcast in order to avoid a practice that Comcast says it doesn't follow.Anyone who doesn't believe that Comcast is lying about its VOIP practice probably also whole-heartedly believed Comcast's initial denials on throttling P2P usage. Lying is part of Comcast's corporate policy. Reply
Comcast: We Won't Block VoIP Traffic. (Not That We Ever Have) [view article]
I have comcast internet and HAD broadvoice for VoIP. Every couple of days my comcast modem would stop working, I would have to disconnect the cable and reconnect, then it would work for a couple of days and repeat over and over. Broadvoice service was awsome when comcast was up. I disconnected my VoIP router 2 months ago, and my cable modem hasn't gone down since. Sounds like Comcast is blocking my VoIP in Northern Virginia. An Interview With Vonage CEO Jeff Citron [view article]
Hi..Ive had vonage for a year now and feel a bit bamboozled on the customer relations they have with people trying to disconnect their service. The service works great but if for some reason you want to get rid of it then your in for a big surprise. The first surprise is the fact that their is a contract. 2 years or you will pay a 39.99 disconnect fee. "Which till this day I do not remember reading" I'm ok with that but they also want to charge me for my modem device which it clearly states I received for free with rebate. I see nothing about having to finish contract to receive rebate. I don't mind returning the device but that wasn't an option according to the young non American lady on the line. So to my dismay I can no longer support a company that I have been loyal to for a year and have even had service with them before and came back. So if your considering vonage please reconsider. ReplySkype 4.0 Beta Is All About Video [view article]
Looking forward to the day when someone releases a study implicating the major telcos for throttling P2P and making the intuitive leap that this hinders VOIP quality, thereby protecting US telcos oligopolies. Today's telco, is tomorrows (3-5 years) dumb pipe selling commodity bits. Watch out for falling Arpu's and lots legislative bluster about security and QOS in the future. ReplyVonage Talks Financing, But No Deal Yet [view article]
There is a bit of a misunderstanding in the URGENCY of consumating anything in this particular discussion withe this particular funding party. There is no such importance - and Vonage has had and may probably have further discussions with other parties as well. This was one of the best bear traps of any stock last year. I believe it will repeat that performance (deservedly or not) this year. I'm betting on it!Disclosure: I have had a long position in VG for the past year and have been building its size. Reply

Gebby you are SO correct! "If it bleeds, it leads" mentality of the press has almost destroyed their readership. Mark Twain was right on the money when he said "To NOT read a newspaper is to be Uninformed, but to read them is to be Misinformed". Unfortunately the other media outlets are folloeing in the newspapers footsteps. ReplyPseudonym
Vonage Growth Fades As Churn Rises [view article]
Keep an eye on this....Cable/DSL companies want to sell VOIP.
Vonage depends on high speed access which is provided by Cable/DSL.
In my area, unless you're willing to pay extra for faster service, the Cable/DSL companies are slowing down upload speeds.
That slow upload speed makes VOIP useless.
If you buy VOIP from the Cable/DSL providers, then they pump up the uploads to make it work...
So, pay extra for high upload speeds or buy VOIP from the Cable/DSL companies and get the high speeds for free with the VOIP service.
In my area, it's cheaper to use VOIP from the Cable/DSL providers...VONAGE is in trouble. Reply
