Stocks in REITs Climb High Despite Broader Real Estate Worries [view article]
I see that one of the top holdings is ProLogis (PLD). You'll think I'm crzay but I think it is seriously overleveraged and will be the next Lehman. I've done a comprehensive analysis at my blog. I'd love to get your candid review of my analysis. Reply

To "The World's Worst S.P." It wouldn't be happening ("the socialization of America") if the unbridled abuses of laissez-faire capitalisim hadn't reared their Medusa's hissing head first. It's a matter of necessary checks and balances. (I like your moniker: "the World's Worst S.P."--we're pretty much all of us keeping you company that way. Good luck to you!)

Let's see how they will be able to continue growing earnings with tighter credit and a slowing economy.

And I hate to break it to you Chris but the economy runs on credit. There is a lag effect on growth. It will be come more apparent over time and the historically low P/E ratio uber bulls point to will look lower since the cost of capital will be higher and the growth rate lower, if not negative.

In the short term, cheer on the Paulson Plan and get giddy. We rallly and then will wake up with a hang over.

    Again.

    Aalan,
That's because the real economy keeps chugging on, even as a dozen or so investment banks lose money and dominate the headlines. Look at non-investment bank earnings. Look at retail bank earnings. They're doing OK.

More specifically the author does explain EQR.

Rather than simply plugging one particular ETF, it would nice if you could tell us *why* REITs are gaining. It makes for more intelligent investing.
    If you don't know, it's just performance-chasing.

One can only hope you are correct. I now a lot of people in tis industry out in California. One worries that this industry is next to fall, in America anyway.

Those are some pretty good stocks out there for which I have never heard anything yet.

    stc1,

Nobody would take your comments seriously unless you provide some hard data evidence that David Powell's calculation data is wrong. You might be correct, but please next time you criticize something, please have your backup ready.

    Guliamo,

What you are saying about RYN is generally correct. It doesn't have to chop down trees if it doesn't like the price. But how else is the company going to be able to generate the cashflow to pay dividends to shareholders?

The lead says "commercial real estate seems active."
The first general headline says "commercial real estate deals tumble".
Thans for your response but I still don't get it.

    Dear Squashnut,

I actually thought the title was pretty accurate. The forecast for commercial real estate, as mentioned in two or three articles above, is not optimistic.
On the other hand, most of the other excerpts indicate healthy activity still going on. Is the market in the initial phases of slowing down (and all the deals getting done are just the tail end of the boom), or is the outlook just wrong? Wish I knew the answer to that one.

    Best,

    Judy

Commercial Real Estate: Funding For Hotels Still Strong [Housing Tracker] [view article]
This article looks encouraging. Is this the first sign of financing becoming available for hotels in a while? If so , this would make hotel stocks, particularly hotel REIT's with big dividends , quite attractive. Reply
