Friday, May 3, 3:55 PM The USPTO has maintained its rejection of claims in Vringo's (VRNG -3%) '420 patent, the company announces. An initial, non-final rejection had been made last September following a request by Google to re-examine the patent. Vringo says it will appeal the ruling. Wednesday, May 1, 1:43 PM Vringo (VRNG +7.1%) spikes higher after announcing the Virginia district court handling its suit against Google, AOL, IAC, Gannett, and Target denied a motion from the defendants to "Compel the Deposition" of Vringo witness Stephen Becker, and to increase the time to oppose Vringo's motion for post-judgment royalties. Tuesday, April 16, 7:15 PM Vringo (VRNG) -2.7% AH after SA contributor Patent Plays makes note of a Google motion filed today in which the search giant claims to have developed an AdWords workaround that would allow it to avoid infringing Vringo's IP. Though granting Google might be bluffing, the author believes otherwise, and notes Google's hard-line stance towards IP suits from non-practicing entities (NPEs) gives it extra motivation to try and dissuade would-be litigants. 8 Comments [Tech, On the Move]

Wednesday, April 3, 2:08 PM The Virginia court handling Vringo's (VRNG +5.9%) infringement suit against Google, AOL, IAC, Gannett, and Target has ordered the aforementioned companies to respond to Vringo's motion for post-judgment royalties in 15 days. The court has also denied the defendants' renewed motions for Judgment as a Matter of Law on invalidity, non-infringement, and damages or a new trial, and denied Vringo's motion for a new trial on the dollar amount of past damages. Tinker, who maintains a $10 PT, thinks Microsoft could buy Vringo to help pursue an infringement case against Google, and estimates the net proceeds from a legal win against Microsoft could amount to $0.73/share. Monday, April 1, 9:53 AM Vringo (VRNG +5.4%) adds to the big gains it saw on Friday on Microsoft settlement hopes after announcing it has filed a fresh suit against ZTE, this time in France. Thursday, March 28, 2:44 PM Vringo (VRNG +12.7%) has soared over the last 90 minutes of trading, apparently thanks to speculation about a settlement with Microsoft. A letter dated March 27 from a law firm representing Vringo states Microsoft and Vringo are "discussing settlement." Tuesday, March 19, 9:25 AM Vringo (VRNG) strikes an IP partnership with Virginia Tech. Vringo will get exclusive rights to two wireless patents that will allow the company to conduct related R&D and "secure future licensing rights." Vringo claims the technology in question could allow first responders to set up wireless networks in areas where the local infrastructure "has been destroyed or rendered inoperable," and potentially to enable wireless service within subways, tunnels, and remote locations. Friday, February 15, 12:09 PM Pres. Obama isn't a fan of patent trolls. "They are essentially trying to leverage and hijack somebody else's idea and see if they can extort some money," Obama stated during a Google+ hangout. He added, "Our efforts at patent reform are only about halfway to where we need to go." The remarks come as the DOJ and FTC hold hearings on patent trolls, and an appeals court debates whether software should be patentable.
