Vertex's Telaprevir May Become a Multi-Billion Dollar Drug [view article]
The co. trades at 15x revenues, and is burning through more than $250Mn a year. I fail to see how its valuation of $3Bn+ can be justified even if its revenues eventually are in the billions, given that it will take many years and hundreds of millions more in operating losses. ReplyorCF
Vertex's Telaprevir May Become a Multi-Billion Dollar Drug [view article]
Mr. Saadat....I read your article and find it very interesting. I am a mother of twins that have cystic fibrosis. Vertex has "promising" results to "target the disease" instead of just targeting the symptoms, as in other companies have introduced so far to date. I feel ya, I see the "law suits" about "promising results", however, my gut feeling Vertex is headed somewhere towards CF "despite" their less encouraging facts towards other medications in research. I have been waiting and hoping for 12 yrs so far to hear an encouraging word to my heart and ears regarding CF. I am a hesitant person as far as "believing" that this needle in the haystack "devastating life shortening disease" will become a reality for a cure in "my twins lifetime". So, all in all, I have a feeling this company will do it's job, if not a cure, but atleast work towards one.Kathy...Mom To Twins With CF
My personal quote: If there is a "cure" this very "moment" and this "moment" is not soon enough, you'd hear this twins mom "Across America" "YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS... Reply

Vytorin Battle Pits Merck and SGP against Pfizer [view article]
These doctors are way out of control. Vytorin is a drug that lowers cholesterol better than Lipitor and Crestor. That is a fact. The Enhance study was done on a small number of patients with very high cholesterol, over 300. You cannot reduce plaque build up until you get the ldl down to below 100.
Crestor recently stopped a study where it did notice a small amount of plaque regression. That study was done on patients with ldl of 170 and after high doses it came down by over 50% or about 80, below the 100 mark. Crestor is very potent, but is very toxic and many patients cannot handle it. Vytorin is much more tolerable. This is also something the Cardiac Panel did not address. Lipitor is the same as Crestor. Also, Zocor, which is part of Vytorin, is the same as Lipitor and Crestor. Zocor alone had no effect on the study group. Could it be the plaque build up in this group is just too stubborn, probably.
I think the doctors are way off base totally dismissing the fact that LDL is not the issue and the only issue is plaque regression. LDL is very important to a patients cardiac health.
I think the panel of cardiologists had an agenda which is why they did not even want to discuss Enhance in an open forum.
The media has to get together, get informed and stop shooting from the hip.

If you are looking at AMAG, look at RMTI too. Like AMAG, they have a new iron therapy drug to treat anemia. Initially targeting end-stage renal disease w/ addressable market of 2M patients by 2010. They are doing another Phase II & if successful should start III in 2009. Only pure play iron play left that still cheap. Reply2007 Biotech Performance Review [view article]
