After these 3 limit orders hit, all but 1 of my limit orders from the past week on the short side have now executed. Instead of "chasing" to get short exposure, I waited patiently and a slew of these finally came online (granted some we quickly were chased right back out of) but if we had put these on Monday or Tuesday a lot of pain would of been achieved.

I will explain the similar thinking in all 3, but again if we gap up on the next "surprise" earnings, it will be irrelevant, hence I will have my stops in and ready to bail. We are now quickly approaching the S&P 930 area where we had trouble with a few weeks ago, 925-930 was the "top end" of the range we kept hitting. If we blast through, the bulls will be very emboldened here.

The value of their $217B in 'non-agency' debt continues to fall as other firms write down their portfolios. "To the extent that [other] institutions recognize fair value losses on their private-label portfolios under GAAP, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac may have to do so as well," it says.
Apple dives on weak outlook, Jobs's health. Shares of Apple (AAPL) fell more than 10% in extended trading despite EPS and revenue that exceeded analyst consensus after its FQ4 outlook disappointed (see below), and investors continued to fret over CEO Steve Jobs's health. Apple did little to dispel the speculation when the inevitable question came up: "I’m really sorry to ask, because it’s a very private matter, but would you mind addressing" yesterday's NY Post report that called the venerated chief's health into question, Lehman's Ben Reitzes asked during the company's earnings call. "Ben, Steve loves Apple. He serves as the CEO at the pleasure of Apple's board, and has no plans to leave Apple. Steve’s health is a private matter."

TV's about to get costlier. TiVo (TIVO) is looking to turn the remote control into an electronic credit card. In partnership with Amazon.com (AMZN), viewers will soon be seeing links to buy products like CDs, DVDs and books that appear on, say Oprah, Letterman, The Daily Show - or The Simpsons - during both live programming and commercials.

GE and Mubadala launch multi-billion dollar global investment fund. GE (GE) is partnering with Abu Dhabi's Mubadala Development Co. in an $8B fund ($4B each) to invest in financial assets hurt by the global credit crunch. The two hope to reach $40B in assets. "We can use our unique financial and industrial capabilities to establish profitable relationships across a number of businesses and we welcome them as a long-term shareholder," GE CEO Jeffery Immelt said.

Brocade to buy Foundry Networks. Brocade Communications Systems (BRCD) said late Monday it will acquire Foundry Networks (FDRY) for $19.25 in cash and stock. Brocade says the move will help it develop "a networking infrastructure strategy that will serve as the foundation for capitalizing on these dynamic opportunities." Foundry closed at $13.66, and jumped 32% to $18.08 in AH trading. Keep an eye on Foundry's (FDRY) peers: NT, ALU, COMS, JNPR, and FFIV.

Roche offer attracts analyst scorn. Analysts unanimously decided Roche's (RHHBY.PK) offers to buy the 44% of Genentech (DNA) it doesn't own for $89/share ($43.7B) (a one-day premium of 8.8% and one month premium of 19%) way undervalues the company. Lazard analysts said DNA will likely strive to remain independent, while Bernstein's Geoffrey Porges cautioned a Roche/Genentech link-up would cause "an irrevocable breach in [the pair's] relations," and many DNA top scientists would likely move on if it became a research arm of Roche. Rodman and Renshaw called Roche's $89 opening bid laughable. Shares finished +15% to $93.88, indicating markets tend to agree it's a lowball.

Stocks discussed in the in-depth session of Jim Cramer’s Mad Money TV program, Wednesday May 28.

Trinity Industries (TRN), Otter Tail (OTTR), Owens Corning (OC), Woodward Governor (WGOV), Thomas & Betts (TNB), Kaydon (KDN), Ameron (AMN), Vestas (VWDRY), Broadwind Energy (BWEN), Clipper Wind Power (CRPWF)

It is no secret Cramer is a big fan of wind power, and he quotes a report saying wind power will comprise 30% of the nation’s energy needs by 2040. Cramer discussed his Windex, or 11 stocks that form the Mad Money Wind Index. He has already recommended TRN, OTTR, OC, WGOV, TNB and KDN, and added four new names to the list. AMN is in the water pipeline business, but its wind segment should double this year. Vestas is the largest name in global windpower, BWEN produces wind towers and Clipper Wind Power, based in the U.K, makes wind turbines. Cramer emphasized he is not recommending all of these stocks, but is giving investors an idea of the sector. The Wind Power 2008 Conference in the first week in June should drive these wind stocks up.

CEO Interview: Timothy Wallace, Trinity Industries (TRN)

Timothy Wallace shares Cramer’s enthusiasm for wind power and it shows; his company increased its backlog for wind towers to $1.6 billion and the size of its wind segment grew 42%. Since Trinity is a rail play, it can produce special cars for transporting wind towers. Of the company’s diversification, Wallace said, “We focus on…being able to shift our products from line to line,” he said. “And that’s exactly what we’ve done in the wind-tower business.” Cramer is bullish on TRN and said its story has not yet been told.

Mankind Sector: Donny Deutsch, host of CNBC’s “The Big Idea”

Cramer invited trend guru Donny Deustch onto Mad Money to discuss how he can make his “new tech” industrial plays such as Eaton and Owens-Corning seem as cool as Apple or Microsoft. First of all, Deutsch scrapped the term “new tech” and focused on the larger picture; “This is the humanity sector. This is the better-world sector. This is the future-planet sector. This is the sector that’s going to make sure your grandchildren can eat. This is the sector that’s going to make sure this planet is safe from terrorists. “The thing they’re selling,” Deutsch said, “is the future of humanity.” Cramer’s new term for the sector: Mankind Stocks.

The big news for WGOV is its wind power business which is growing an amazing 150% and recently added a Chinese turbine producer and is constructing a new factory in Colorado. The company is also employing cutting edge technology to reduce emissions and to make engines more efficient. Cramer notes the stock is trading at just 18 times earnings compared to its 12% growth rate, and thinks at $35, the stock is too cheap. He predicts WGOV will hit $53.

PowerShares Cleantech ETF (PZD) launched on October 24,
2006, and quickly produced above-market returns.
The fund gained nearly 42% in 2007, fueled by increasing concerns about environmental issues and a strong
demand for alternative energies—solar energy in particular. The fund’s rapid buildup in momentum led to its
purchase by the PowerShares Momentum Tracker portfolio on June 27, making it the longest-held fund in the
portfolio as of last week. The fund’s momentum
declined during the last two months, however, causing
it to retreat to 18th on the Power Shares Momentum
Table, where it ranked for the last three weeks.

PZD’s rally persevered even after the subprime
mortgage mess caused the market to falter last fall. But
the fund lost steam after reaching an all-time high on
December 26. PZD fell more than 13% year to date
through March 27, underperforming the S&P 500 by
three percentage points. After a rookie year that delivered one of the best performances among ETFs, PZD is
suddenly demonstrating that its unique take on environmentally sound stocks isn’t unshakable.

One of the current great debates is whether or not the slow down in the US economy will torpedo growth in ex-US economies. Most analysts tend to take an all or nothing view. One camp says that economic growth in countries outside the US is bound to disappear given the sharp US decline. The other camp contends that strong growth in places like Asia will continue on unabated.

Of course the more likely outcome is that something in between will occur. The US slow down along with the lower dollar will take away some sales from ex-US companies with large markets in the US. For US based companies with markets outside the US, the low dollar represents an opportunity There is also a large and growing amount of worldwide trade that does not directly involve the US. For example imports from China to Europe increased from 75 billion Euros in 2000 to over 195 billion Euros in 2006.
