- Tuesday, June 18, 8:58 AM Goldman Sachs removes Williams Cos. (WMB) from its Conviction Buy List and lowers its price target to $40 from $45, and cuts Williams Partners (WPZ) to Neutral from Buy with a $52 price target, down from $58. Goldman believes last week's explosion at the Geismar chemical plant adds material risk to near-term growth of both WMB and WPZ, putting dividend growth targets at risk. WMB -1.9% premarket. Comment! [Energy, Quick Ideas, On the Move]
- Friday, June 14, 3:11 PM Williams Cos. (WMB -1.1%) CEO Alan Armstrong says he doesn’t know when the Geismar, La., chemical plant will resume production, and the company hasn’t yet re-entered the plant to assess the damage from yesterday's explosion, which has claimed a second victim. Wells Fargo expects WMB to suffer some financial damage but keeps shares at Outperform; Stifel Nicolaus cut shares to Hold. Comment! [Energy]
- Friday, June 14, 12:13 PM Williams Partners (WPZ -0.6%) is downgraded to Hold from Buy and removed from the Select List at Stifel Nicolaus after yesterday's explosion at the Louisiana olefins plant. The firm expects a significant financial impact, especially in the short term as ethylene margins had been relatively strong. Stifel is waiting before revising its estimates but is confident results will be below expectations. 2 Comments [Energy, Quick Ideas]
- Thursday, June 13, 5:25 PM The latest on the explosion at the Williams Cos. (WMB) chemical plant in Louisiana: One person was killed and 73 people were treated at hospitals for injuries ranging from minor to critical. All workers are now accounted for. The fire is out, but gas is being flared. Tests do not indicate dangerous levels of any chemicals in the area. Shares -0.9% AH after closing -0.9% during regular trading. (earlier) 1 Comment [Energy]
- Thursday, June 13, 10:52 AM Williams Cos. (WMB -2.7%) sinks on word of a major explosion and fire at its olefins chemical plant in Geismar, La. Local reports say there are injuries at the facility. The plant produces ~1.3B lbs./year of ethylene and 90M lbs./year of polymer grade propylene. Westlake Chemicals (WLK +3.5%), whose shares are spiking on the news, is seen as a beneficiary of the event. 2 Comments [Energy, On the Move]
- Wednesday, June 12, 10:43 AM With MLPs pulling back from recent highs, Credit Suisse maintains its view that increased oil production is extremely bullish for MLPs and says it's time to reload on its favorites now at better entry points: WMB, ACMP, EQM, GEL, LNG, MWE, SXL, TRGP. 1 Comment [Energy, Quick Ideas]
- Tuesday, June 11, 11:36 AM UBS suggests 11 dividend growing stocks to buy for income; each has a dividend yield of at least 2.5%, has increased its payout ratio by more than 5% during the past year, and has positive consensus EPS growth over the next 12 months: WMB, ESV, NUE, JNJ, CAG, KLAC, CSCO, BBT, AAPL, BAX, F. 2 Comments [Quick Ideas]
- Thursday, June 6, 2:22 PM In hundreds of cases across the U.S., drillers have agreed to cash settlements with people who say fracking ruined their water, according to a Bloomberg analysis of legal and regulatory filings. The strategy keeps data from regulators, policymakers, the media and health researchers, and makes it difficult to challenge the industry’s claim that fracking has never tainted anyone’s water. 13 Comments [Energy]
- Tuesday, May 28, 5:20 PM Williams Cos. (WMB) and Boardwalk Pipeline Partners (BWP) sign an agreement to continue the development of the Bluegrass Pipeline to transport natural gas liquids from the Marcellus and Utica shale plays to the U.S. Gulf coast and U.S. northeast. Phase one of the project will provide producers with 200K bbl/day of mixed NGLs take-away capacity in Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania. Comment!
- Wednesday, May 22, 3:46 PM Credit Suisse stresses a more defensive posture in MLPs, focusing attention on large, relatively liquid, investment-grade MLPs or affiliates with exposure to the coming crude oil production boom in North America. Its eight favorite MLPs to buy now: WMB, QRE, LNG, TRGP, CQP, XTEX, ACMP, GEL. 8 Comments [Energy, Quick Ideas]
- Wednesday, May 8, 3:46 PM Williams Cos. (WMB -3.5%) is among the weakest stocks in the S&P 500 after reporting a big Q1 profit drop and lowering its 2013 EPS outlook on weaker margins. In today's conference call, CEO Alan Armstrong projected dividends to grow 20%/year through 2015 despite low natural gas liquids prices, and said the needs for North American energy infrastructure would present opportunities for WMB and WPZ. Comment! [Energy, On the Move]
- Tuesday, May 7, 5:54 PM More on Williams Cos. (WMB) Q1 results: The 62% drop in Q1 earnings is attributed to a 50% decline in natural gas liquids margins at Williams Partners (WPZ). Issues downside guidance, seeing EPS of $0.72 vs. $1.00 consensus for FY 2013 and $1.30 vs. $1.40 consensus for 2014. WPZ lowers 2013-14 guidance for earnings and distributable cash flow. WMB -3.4%, WPZ +0.2% AH. Comment! [Energy, Earnings, On the Move]
- Tuesday, May 7, 4:06 PM Williams Cos (WMB): Q1 EPS of $0.22 misses by $0.02. (PR) 2 Comments [Earnings, Breaking News]

- Monday, May 6, 5:00 AM President Obama has signaled his support for increasing the U.S.'s exports of natural gas, saying that the country will probably be a net seller of LNG by 2020. The Department of Energy is assessing applications for 20 projects to export gas to nations with which the U.S. doesn't have a free trade agreement. Companies that could benefit include Dominion Resources (D), Cheniere Energy (LNG), Oiltanking Partners (OILT), Williams Cos. (WMB), Boardwalk Pipeline Partners (BWP) and Sempra Energy (SRE). Dow Chemical (DOW) and Alcoa (AA) are among those to oppose increased LNG exports, as it could raise their costs. 8 Comments [Energy, Top Stories]

DAG1996: even if WMB dips the story hasn't changed so selling would be like turning off my electricity because this month's bill was higher than last -
DAG1996: for what it's worth, WPZ was down 3.15% in after-hours, yet WMB was up 0.45% in after-hours so we should be good tomorrow too

$WMB stalking dividend tiger - 4.10% yield does not count $1 special dividend.Total makes 7% this year. - View all 5 replies

Energysystems: It is very good for an IRA. Less tax worries than holding WPZ in taxable retirement accounts. -
Richard Evans: Especially good for IRAs if taxes on dividend distributions rise in 2013 like expected
