where is pseg &clp in all this?thanx ReplySix Electric Utility Stocks with High Oil / Gas Exposure [view article]
Be careful - its not that simple. Many of these utilities have fuel clauses in which they pass the costs of generation directly thru to customers. PNW only keeps a portion of its fuel savings, WR has almost zero impact. LNT sees a benefit, but if gas prices dip toooo low they may be forced to refund some of the savings to customers, with interest. ReplyWall Street Breakfast: Must-Know News [view article]
Regarding Huntsman (HUN), see article beneath 2008 chart here:www.crossprofit.com/vi...
As stated in article, no position was taken in this arbitrage. As the title suggests, there were just too many question marks popping up. Upon this last earnings miss, Apollo called a MAC yesterday effectively nullifying the acquisition agreement. There may NOT be a break-up fee though HUN has gone to court!
HUN should have negotiated a new price tag though the whole scenario is very problematic as certain shareholders already cashed out. This deal looks dead; funeral dance (courts) to follow.

Re "home rescue plans in limbo"... Why do we rush with billions of $$$ to aid countries outside the USA, and lollygag when it comes to helping the taxpayers that make the aid possible in the first place??? Is it one of those "follow the money" deals? ReplyEditors

Is this a buy or a sell? ReplyCoal Cost Reduction Saves Big for Utilities [view article]
I agree that the lower spot prices won't kick for another 6 months or so. ReplyCoal Cost Reduction Saves Big for Utilities [view article]
Re: Ameren Corporation (AEE), total of 1.2M electricity and 125,000 gas customers in Missouri in addition to 1.2M electricity and 835,000 gas customers in Illinois. Of particular significance is the 20% to 40% price increase to Illinois electric customers effective 01/01/07 after a 10 year rate freeze and supply contracts expired at end of 2006.Competitors are trying to lure customers away emphasizing the new rate hikes (see; electricityiq.com/illi... ). Overall, rate hike should yield higher returns, most likely leading to higher dividends as well.
Company expects cost of coal to increase 15-20% in 2007 from current levels! AEE hedges quite heavily. Lower spot prices probably won’t kick in for another 6 to 8 months (presumption only – no info).

Barry,Great post; to supplant your argument there is a great WSJ article out this morning regarding the record-setting increases in power usage due to the current heat wave across much of the nation:
